Job summary An exciting opportunity has arisen to cover maternity leave until May 2026 for a Band 5 Occupational Therapist. The post holder will be working alongside senior physiotherapy and occupational therapy colleagues with direct supervision from the B7 OT Team lead. The Wellbeing service is a small therapy led team that use a rehabilitative palliative care approach to provide assessment and interventions for people with a life-limiting condition e.g. cancer, rapidly progressive neurological conditions and end-stage chronic respiratory and cardiac disease. Interventions are delivered on a one-to-one or group basis to help people manage the symptoms of their condition, maximise their functional abilities and cope emotionally and psychologically with a deteriorating illness. Wellbeing is part of the Specialist Palliative Care service providing input across Northamptonshire. Other parts of the service include, doctors, clinical nurse specialists, hospice at home, chaplaincy, family worker and lymphoedema team, there is also a separate therapy team providing physiotherapy and occupational therapy to the in patient unit and within the community. There will be opportunity within this role to gain skills to be able to support other areas of the therapy team to be able to provide cover for example during annual leave. Main duties of the job The role will include providing holistic, person centred occupational therapy and palliative care assessments, interventions, planning and delivering groups. Areas such as fatigue management, anxiety management and activity analysis and adaptation are some of the key occupational therapy skills needed in this post. The group sessions are held in person but there may be infrequent occasions where virtual discussions and assessments are required. Someone who is motivated, passionate and willing to learn would be ideal for this role. Supervision and support will come directly from the Wellbeing team lead, however informal supervision and support is also available from other therapists and nurses within the wider team. Non clinical aspects of the role will included day to day caseload management, support and delegation to un-qualified staff as well as planning, development and promotion of the service alongside the team. Wellbeing Cynthia Spencer is based at Cynthia Spencer Hospice and was rebranded from the previous day hospice service. This has enabled significant development to a more varied program of rehabilitation focussed groups and individualised interventions.
