Lark ward is a 10 bedded Male PICU (Psychiatric intensive care unit) with a 136 Suite attached in Ipswich, covering both the Suffolk and Norfolk area.
Within this role, it will be important to show skills in leadership, communication, risk assessment, and knowledge of the mental health act. It is also important that the individual works in a caring and empathic way towards others and is approachable to both patients and staff.
Lark ward often takes part in Quality improvement projects and is continually looking to improve the work it completes - as a charge nurse, we would look for your assistance and input in making this happen.
Main Duties of the Job
Lark ward is looking for an enthusiastic and caring new staff member who as a charge nurse would have an active role in leadership and role modelling excellent care to others. This can include:
1. Have excellent knowledge of the Mental health act.
2. Have excellent record keeping skills, including care documentation and audits.
3. Have good communications both within the multi-disciplinary team and with other professionals such as social care.
4. Being the head of a care team, ensuring patient needs are advocated for and that staff feel supported in their role.
5. Keeping up to date with the most recent NICE guidelines and local procedures and sharing any changes with the team.
6. Being lead in a certain area for the ward e.g. Infection control, safeguarding.
7. To contribute towards and understand the gatekeeping of patients facilitating safe, timely and effective transfer in and out of a PICU ward.
8. Ensuring that adequate supervision is given to those who you have been allocated.
9. Take part in Quality Improvement projects where relevant.
10. Be trained in, or able to be trained in Prevention and management of violence and aggression.

Job Responsibilities
Provide advice and leadership to clinical staff in areas related to clinical care including, treatment, therapy, and clinical risk assessment and management. Provide consultation support and supervision to teams on issues relating to nursing practice. Be a role model in initiating, facilitating, and promoting excellence in Evidence Based Nursing Practice. Work alongside the clinical care team and relevant teams including governance and research department to utilise information and data to support the implementation and embedding of best practice. Develop processes and systems to share learning from local and national research and National guidance. Ensure any learning is embedded and sustained in clinical services.

Qualifications
* Essential: RMN
* Desirable: ENB 998 / Mentorship. Leadership / Management Training
Experience
