We are currently recruiting to a vacancy within our Environmental Crimes Team and are looking for someone who is passionate and committed to our City. The Environmental Crimes Team sits within the Compliance, Enforcement and Community Safety service, which is part of the Neighbourhoods Directorate. The service brings together enforcement and compliance resource and expertise into one team, alongside community safety and civil contingencies. The key duties of the team include – The coordination of works in default of legal Notices served by officers across a range of City Council departments, including Neighbourhood Compliance Teams, the Housing Compliance and Enforcement Team and Planning Enforcement. The works can vary from the clearance of waste from private land to addressing disrepair in private-rented properties and some of the works can be of an urgent nature. The detailed progression and management of criminal prosecution cases in respect of a range of environmental offences, including fly-tipping, commercial waste and fly posting. Attendance at court where necessary to give evidence in support of debt recovery and prosecution cases. Providing enforcement support to teams within the City Council and other agencies, including involvement in specific projects where required. This is a varied role and the post holder will have responsibility for the management and progression of a portfolio of enforcement cases, ensuring that the appropriate action is taken and all legislative timescales and requirements are met. The successful candidate will work closely with other Council departments, City Solicitors and external agencies such as defence solicitors, the courts and the Council's appointed contractors. About the Candidate The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, self-motivated and be able to demonstrate the ability to interpret and apply complex legislation and information from a variety of sources. You will have strong analytical skills and a keen eye for detail. Excellent verbal and written skills are also essential for the role and the post holder will be required to effectively communicate with a wide range of audiences, in both a formal and informal setting. The post holder must be flexible in their approach and be able to manage a high volume and varied caseload and so good time management and organisational skills are therefore essential. Experience in undertaking investigations of a legal nature and conducting interviews under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 is desirable, as is experience of giving evidence in court.
