Your cyber skills may never have mattered more. At FCDO Services, you’ll be putting your expertise to good use protecting our organisation’s systems, and those of our customers. But in everything you do, you’ll also have the deep satisfaction of knowing you’re keeping much more than organisations and systems safe. Because, as a key member of our team, you’ll also be helping to keep the nation itself safe from harm.
At FCDO Services, we protect the UK’s interests at home and overseas. We design and construct secure government buildings, courier diplomatic packages worldwide, safeguard government tech, and a whole lot more.
Our work is as varied and vital as it gets, but we never lose sight of our people. Their skills, aspirations and growth mean as much as the global mission we're on. In our world, it all matters.
Protecting government assets is a big picture operation for us. That’s why our Technical Security team is made up of all kinds of talent. From security design engineers creating solutions for global threats to technical installers guarding the UK’s most sensitive assets in real time, this team provides the full spectrum of protection for the UK around the world. Now, you’ve got the opportunity to join them.
Keeping people and information safe.
Solving unique problems.
Broadening your horizons.
It all matters.
Put a stop to cyber incidents that threaten the national interest
As SOC Lead Engineer, you’ll play a vital part in delivering and maintaining cyber security defensive and monitoring technologies. We’ll look to you to lead our SOC Engineering team, making sure key tech is configured and kept operating at peak potential. Proactively maintaining up-to-date knowledge of the latest IT-based threats and vulnerabilities, you’ll provide valued support to customers, including interpreting a variety of logs and reports. You’ll also take pride in mentoring, training and managing our Senior Analyst.
You’ll identify, investigate and analyse all manner of threats, incidents, anomalies and unexpected activities within the IT systems of FCDO Services and our important customers. Working closely with colleagues across analytical, IT and security teams, you’ll be at the heart of reporting real time attacks and resolving security incidents. You will make sure the Engineering team is well equipped for incident response and resolution. The technical incident reports you write will keep us – and our customers – strong for the future.
Drive good governance while forging great relationships
In this role you’ll draw on your full and proven cyber security skillset – from using a variety of tools to manipulate, analyse, interrogate, interpret and evaluate data, through to managing secure operations. You’ll bring the ability to assess threats, detect and analyse intrusions, and deliver effective incident management, investigation and response. A sound understanding of good governance is also essential.
Crucially, you also recognise that IT security is about more than technology: people are integral to safety. With your skills in communication and influencing, you have a flair for leading and collaborating productively with technical colleagues, and for explaining issues to a non-expert community.
Grow your career with full support
Working with us you’ll help keep people, information, and assets safe around the world. It’s a role you can feel proud of; and we aim to make every part of your career just as rewarding. That’s why when you join us, expect to receive a competitive salary, generous holiday entitlement and a Civil Service Pension. Along with this, you’ll also have access to training and other development opportunities to help grow your career with us. Our offices have an on-site gym, nursery, café, and restaurant, and we offer interest-free loans on season tickets and bikes to help you get there. It's a great set of benefits made to support all you do, and all you need.
Every single colleague must be security cleared before joining us. If you’re successful in your application, we’ll ask you to undergo our vetting process to achieve Developed Vetting (DV) clearance. You can find out more about vetting on our website: https://www.fcdoservicescareers.co.uk/how-to-apply/ [fcdoservicescareers.co.uk]
Closing date: 16 March 2025.
