Eye Casualty offers a walk-in service between 07:00 and 22:00, 365 days of the year. The successful candidate will be part of a small team providing reception cover for this service. This is predominantly patient-facing which requires customer-based ability.
Standard shifts will be 07:00 to 19:30 and 09:30 to 22:00 and will be rotated over 7 days. This is a full-time position and the shifts will be distributed over a 4-week period.
The Receptionist is the first point of contact for the patient; we are looking for someone with a welcoming and reassuring personality who is able to quickly capture and record essential information in an understanding, respectful manner.
Main Duties of the Job
1. Greeting patients who arrive in Eye Casualty.
2. Booking patients onto the database, including the registering of patients with the hospital and entering information ready for the triage team.
3. Dealing with patients' queries.
4. Tracking patients on the system when they are required to visit other areas of the hospital for tests and back into Eye Casualty, preventing unnecessary delays in their treatment and discharge.
5. Booking follow-up appointments in the department and referring patients to a community provider for follow-up.
6. Greeting and booking in patients attending for Rapid Access and Laser Clinics. Outcoming clinics when the patients' visit is complete.
7. Setting up the reception area at the start of the day and clearing at the end of the day.
8. General administration tasks when numbers permit.
9. Assisting the Nurse in Charge, Eye Casualty Manager, Deputy Service Manager, and Service Manager with general administration tasks and with maintaining the flow of patients through the department.
Person Specification
Training & Qualifications
* To be educated to 'O' level, GCSE or equivalent standard including English and Maths.
* To possess 5 GCSE A-C passes including English and Maths or equivalent.
Experience
* Customer Service Skills.
* Knowledge of hospital IT systems, e.g. Medway PAS, Notis.
Other Requirements Specific to the Role
* Able to work shifts including weekends and Bank Holidays.
Analytical and Judgement Skills
* Understand the importance of confidentiality.
Planning and Organisation Skills
* Ability to prioritise own tasks.
