Senior Engine Design Engineer
Location: Woking
Shift: Days – 40 hours per week
Reporting to the Engine Design Manager, the Senior Engine Design Engineer will design engine components (dynamic parts, castings, exhaust, fuel, intake, cooling, and lubrication) for high-performance combustion engines.
The Senior Engine Design Engineer will work in the Team of Engine Engineers and Technical Experts, responsible for designing parts to high quality standards and taking ownership of design, project management, and delivery of Engine components and subsystems on Engine Programs. Interfacing with other engineering teams and taking responsibility for integration of Engine designs with Powertrain Systems and Vehicle systems.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Detailed knowledge of high-performance Engine components and sub-systems.
2. Responsibility for components design, from concept to design development to delivery on time to engine programs.
3. Liaise with suppliers and development partners to deliver designs to defined technical specifications in line with the Powertrain & Vehicle programme timing.
4. BoM management and delivery of component and sub-system for the assigned designs in SAP.
5. Responsibility for creating & maintaining technical Specifications, DFMEAs, and Design Validation Plans.
6. Takes ownership to meet cost, weight, timing, and quality targets within DFM and DFA requirements.
7. Contributes to the technical assessment, integration, and application of appropriate Powertrain technology.
8. Support vehicle programme attribute owners with respect to development and reporting.
9. Ensure the components interface seamlessly to the wider car.
10. Responsibility for design release in line with Engineering Release Timing Schedule requirements.
11. Guarantee delivery of Engine components and/or sub-systems for designated engine projects in line with MDP (Development Process) and that Project Management KPIs are on track.
12. Cooperate with the Engine team in the execution and evaluation of results of component testing. Support powertrain & vehicle development activities including test specification, parts supply, troubleshooting, and post-test component evaluation.
13. Lead robust resolutions to engineering concerns.
14. Support vehicle manufacturing, launch & planning.
15. Preparation and presentation of material to support external and internal project status reviews.
16. Provides clear communication inside and outside the engine team.
Ideal Experience:
1. A good level of technical knowledge & industry experience of high-performance engine component & system design, test & production is essential.
2. Advanced CATIA V5 2D/3D draughting/ solid and surface modelling skills are essential.
3. Advanced knowledge and understanding of GDT principles and application.
4. Competence in FEM calculation of mechanical components, both under static and dynamic loading conditions is desirable.
5. Knowledge of Project management processes within SAP system is desirable.
6. PC literate and at ease with MS Office products is essential.
7. Experienced in OEM or tier one component delivery is highly desirable.
8. Component & system design within an APQP or similar framework including FMEA, component planning and PPAP is desirable.
Qualifications and Training:
1. Engineering Degree 2:1 or above

10. A willingness to travel within UK and abroad to visit partners and suppliers when required.
