We are seeking a motivated and dependable nurse to join our Head and Neck and Thyroid Cancer team as a Band 7 Clinical Nurse Specialist.
In this role, you will collaborate with our dedicated team of Clinical Nurse Specialists to provide comprehensive physical and emotional support to cancer patients throughout their treatment journey. You will also work closely with the broader Head and Neck multidisciplinary team to ensure holistic patient care.
As a Band 7 Clinical Nurse Specialist, you will demonstrate strong management and leadership qualities, guiding and mentoring junior staff, and contributing to the development and implementation of clinical protocols and procedures. Your leadership will be pivotal in driving quality improvements and ensuring the highest standards of patient care.
1. Maintain a high standard of care for all patients diagnosed with head and neck cancer, offering exceptional psychosocial support to patients and their families/carers during and after oncology treatment.
2. Serve as an effective key worker for patients and their families, providing guidance, support, and appropriate referrals when needed.
3. Develop and apply advanced clinical assessment skills in nurse-led clinics to independently manage patients with head and neck oncology diagnoses, ensuring their physical and psychological care needs are optimally met.
4. Contribute to the development of nurse-led clinics, working autonomously and in collaboration with head and neck clinicians.
5. Consider patients’ holistic needs in the decision-making process.
6. Utilize advanced communication skills to maintain high-quality service and ensure timely management and resolution of unexpected events and situations.
7. Attend weekly multidisciplinary team meetings and represent the MDT at local/regional business meetings and the West Midlands Expert Advisory Group meetings.

• Identify and assess complex clinical and non-clinical issues, implement resolutions, and monitor/audit outcomes.

• Act as a role model, demonstrating high standards of care and providing clinical leadership, ensuring effective communication across all services.
• Collaborate with the Lead Cancer Nurse and other cancer CNSs/AHPs within the Trust.
• Utilize and ensure the use of IT systems to secure accurate and timely patient, workforce, and resource data.
• Promote and monitor adherence to Health and Safety and Trust policies designed to protect healthcare staff and service users from known hazards.
• Evaluate the results of the local and national cancer surveys, and ensure that appropriate action plans are developed.
• Assess patient and family educational needs in relation to oncological treatments that may be required, identifying and utilising appropriate resources
• Provide specialist education and training to other health care professionals involved in the care of patients with a Head and Neck cancer.
