CLEAR Buckhaven & Methil is looking for an approachable, organised, motivated and flexible person to join their team as Community Kitchen Supervisor as an integral team member providing simple meals for CLEAR volunteers and events, juices and jams, promoting healthy eating, and maintaining the community kitchen, working with volunteers, and offering occasional demos.
Reporting to the Projects Manager, this part-time post involves 18 hours per week (generally over three days Tuesday to Thursday) with some flexibility/adjustment to cover occasional weekend events. Remuneration includes auto enrolment pension contributions and leave entitlement.
The role involves providing simple, healthy lunches for volunteers and staff two days weekly and occasional open days/planting events throughout the year, working independently or with volunteers in the kitchen to improve their skills and confidence. The successful applicant will also be responsible for making jams, juices and chutneys from produce they grow in their Community Gardens, orchards and foraged locally under their Buckhyne Braes brand.
The Community Kitchen Supervisor will also be responsible for ensuring the Community Kitchen is in efficient working order and compliant with environmental health and any other relevant statutory standards. They will:
• Offer occasional practical, cooking-based learning for volunteers within the Community Kitchen and supervising regular involvement
• Make locally grown (where possible), healthy simple lunches for CLEAR volunteers (mainly Wednesday and Thursday)
• Prepare food for occasional seasonal open days and events
• Promote healthy eating, cooking from scratch, and assist in reducing food waste
• Facilitate occasional demonstrations/workshops on healthy eating and climate-friendly food including occasional blogs on seasonal fruit and vegetables
• Apply experience and skills to use CLEAR grown fruit and vegetables into jams, chutneys, cordials and juices to create a range of Buckhyne Braes products
• Preparing soup packs and healthy recipes for home cooked meals
• Assist with promotion of Buckhyne Braes sales, stock rotation and facilitate occasional markets and events
• Ensuring the Community Kitchen meets environmental health and other required standards
• Organising and maintaining kitchen, appliances and equipment and procurement of supplies
• Collecting donated surplus food from Greggs/Baynes etc – some of the collections are out with work hours (use of CLEAR vehicle will be available)
