Network Rail High Speed Ltd. (NRHS) is responsible for operating and maintaining the UK's only international high-speed railway, High Speed (HS1).
The 109km HS1 infrastructure consists of a diverse range of railway assets such as the track, signalling, overhead line, lineside buildings, depots, viaducts and long tunnels. Brief Description
We have an exciting opportunity within Network Rail High Speed for an Examiner, specialising in Earthworks Examinations.
Reporting into the Assistant Buildings & Civils Maintenance Engineer, you will primarily be responsible for examining all the earthworks across our route, and additionally supporting with the examinations of off-track assets, structures and buildings and report on their condition.
Some of the key accountabilities include:
1. Examination of earthwork structures on a risk-based frequency, to determine the current condition of the earthworks, which include cuttings, embankments, earth bunds and strengthened earthworks.
2. Visual examination of structures and buildings to determine the current condition of visible and easily accessible elements of the structure.
3. Detailed examination of structures and buildings from within touching distance of all elements to identify all signs of deterioration.
4. Examination of earthworks or structures in a manner which is systematic and logical for the type of asset and access constraints verifying that no aspects cited in the report proforma are omitted.
5. Investigate defects and deterioration in sufficient detail to identify all aspects of the severity and extent of any changed condition or situation.
6. Special examinations and monitoring to consider the condition of structures or elements of structures outside of the examination cycle; correctly and accurately using monitoring equipment.
7. Appraise the condition of the assets using approved methods, taking account of material type and prevailing conditions.
8. Record any aspects not examined accurately and changes in condition, as well as obtaining photographic evidence.
9. Prepare technical reports identifying the findings of examinations.
10. Complete scoping visits and determine requirements for examinations.
11. Act as Responsible Person On Site (RPOS) and/or Task Supervisor (TS) responsible for taking possessions and managing safety in possessions.
12. Undertake on-call duties.

About the role (External)
The person
So, who are we looking for? If you can answer ‘yes' to the following questions, then we look forward to receiving your application.
Do you have:
1. Experience of undertaking earthworks examinations, recording defects and reporting on the findings for a selection of geologies and earthwork types which may include cuttings, embankments and strengthened earthworks in chalk, sands and clays?
2. Experience of undertaking structural examinations, recording defects and reporting on the findings for a selection of structure types which may include viaducts, bridges (over, under and foot), subways, retaining walls, culverts and buildings?
3. Experience in the use of Microsoft Office?
4. Excellent technical report writing skills?
5. A full UK Driving Licence?
Although it isn't essential, it would be helpful if you have a knowledge of the railway industry. Also, if you have any of the following – even better!
1. EWE1, EWE2 or EWE3.
2. Experience logging to Eurocode 7 or BS:5930 and CIRIA C574.
3. HNC or equivalent in Geology, Civil Engineering or relevant discipline.
4. STE4 and STE5 competencies.
5. Bridge strike examiner competency.
6. Experience in SCMI and TCMI.
7. Confined spaces competency.

Grade : Maintenance Grade- 40745 (plus outer London allowance of £1600)
