We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Private Housing Standards professional to join our Housing Renewal Team as the Housing Standards Team Leader. The Housing Renewal Team delivers adaptations, retrofit and private housing regulation across the district.

As the Private Housing Standards Team Leader, you will take the lead on private housing regulatory functions, including private rented sector (PRS) conditions, HMO Licensing and Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards (MEES). Working alongside the Housing Renewal Team Leader, you will manage and inspire a dedicated and enthusiastic team, ensuring the effective delivery of services to maintain and enhance housing standards across Torridge.
Among your responsibilities will be to:
1. Lead and develop the Private Housing Regulatory function within the Housing Renewal Team, providing support, motivation and identifying suitable training and development opportunities.
2. Drive compliance with housing standards legislation, resolving complex cases and enforcing standards where necessary.
3. Work collaboratively with landlords, tenants, letting agents, and external partners to achieve improvements in housing standards.
What You’ll Bring:
1. Experience in housing standards and private sector housing enforcement, including expertise in HHSRS, housing legislation, and PRS improvement strategies.
2. A passion for delivering fair and effective services that benefit the community.
3. Leadership experience, with the ability to inspire and manage teams effectively.
