Transport for the North overview: Transport for the North was established in 2018 as the first Sub-national Transport Body in England and was formed to transform the transport system for the North of England, providing the strategic infrastructure needed for enhanced economic growth. Role overview: We are looking for a "can-do'' Senior Lawyer (Solicitor, Barrister, FCILEX) to provide specialist expert legal advice to our various stakeholders, supporting the provision of the full range of professional legal, democratic, contract, procurement, and corporate information management services, focussed on the achievement of corporate objectives and strategic priorities. The ideal candidate will have demonstrable relevant legal experience at a comparable level within a similar organisation or public body and will support the Head of Legal Services (Monitoring Officer) with ensuring proper systems, processes, policies, and procedures are in place to effectively manage the organisation's affairs and always ensure proper statutory compliance, which are aligned to organisational objectives, to also includes diligence of TfN's Constitution. What we're looking for: The successful candidate will possess the capability to investigate any matters and allegations which may constitute, a reportable incident under Sections 5 and 5A of the Local Government & Housing Act 1989, whilst also supporting the Head of Legal Services as the ?Proper Officer' for the preparation, publication, and retention of records of decisions taken by or on behalf of TfN by its various Boards and Committees. Strong analytical skills are also an essential requirement. You will initiate and lead the design and implementation of new/enhanced policies, systems and approaches at TfN. The appointed person will be collaborative, professional, and naturally inquisitive. A self-starter as well as being an excellent team player who is hands on and can turn vision into reality.
