A unique opportunity has arisen for a Senior Educational Psychologist to join our growing senior leadership team within Hospital School. This newly created role offers an exciting opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of the children and their families we support. The successful candidate will be empathetic, determined and committed to deliver a range of psychological services to support the development of pupil attainment and wellbeing. The Senior Educational Psychologist is a strategic role with some operational duties; the successful candidate will demonstrate professional integrity and model the vision and values of the school. This post holder is accountable to the Head of Hospital School and will work in partnership with the Head of School, senior leaders across the Trust, the Local Governing Committee, Trustees and the Chief Executive Officer on our journey to become an Outstanding school within the Trust. The Senior Educational Psychologist will direct, and line manage all Specialists in the Trust (SIT Team).
The Senior Educational Psychologist will carry out the duties of this post in line with the schools Trust policies.
Job Description
To promote the achievement and wellbeing of children and young people, especially those with Special Educational Needs and/or other barriers to their learning and development. Under the direction of the Head of School they will deliver a full range of generic psychological services covering consultation, assessment, intervention, research and training functions to support the development of pupil attainment and wellbeing. They will offer parents/carers support and guidance in understanding and meeting the needs of their children/young people so as to promote their achievement and wellbeing.
* Work alongside the Head of School to oversee the development of effective systemic therapeutic support and intervention that is available to all pupils.
* Support the Head and Deputy Head of School to establish an outstanding school and drive continuous improvement.
* Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead and Lead for Children Looked After.
* Build highly effective relationships with pupils, families and communities.
* Work collaboratively with Local Authority and other partners.
* Work within a leadership team across the MAT.
* Adopt a flexible solution focused approach to the development and delivery of psychology within our school environment.
* Direct and line manage the SEMH Practitioners within the Specialist in the Trust (SIT Team) and review caseloads during timetabled team meetings.
* Act as a model of professional conduct and presentation, demonstrating high standards of expertise and commitment.
* Ensure the protection and safety of pupils through effective approaches to safeguarding, as part of keeping children safe in education.
* Lead the continuing professional development of staff based around aspects of mental health and emotional wellbeing, setting high expectations for your own performance and that of others.
* Provide an applied psychology service across all settings within Hospital School including in hospitals and a range of community venues across local and neighbouring authorities.
* Deliver targeted and specialist psychological services of consultation, assessment (including psychometric summative approaches), advice, planning and development work in school.
* To provide emotional support to pupils within an alternative education setting.
* Maintain written records of work carried out in line with HCPC guidelines.
* Ensure the school holds ambitious expectations for all pupils regardless of their additional and special educational needs and disabilities.
* Support the Head of School to establish and sustain culture and practices that enable pupils to access the curriculum and learn effectively.
* Understand the SEND code of practice and how to evaluate the quality of provision for learners with SEND.
* Engage effectively with information gathering, assessment and sharing of information relevant to the educational and other development needs of learners to ensure the best outcome and support.
* Provide high quality advice to support the implementation of EHCP applications, including statutory psychological advice, as required by the SEN legislation and Code of Practice.
* Challenge practice that does not result in the best outcomes for pupils.
* Offer advice and guidance to help and support parents/carers better understand the needs of their children/young people.
* Work collaboratively with other schools and organisations in a climate of mutual challenge and support.
* Attend multi agency meetings and conferences as representative of the school.
* Ensure that staff know and understand their professional responsibilities and are held to account.
* The post holder must ensure they are registered with Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
