The Installed Base BU is in charge of Framatome's nuclear engineering and services for operating nuclear plants, new build projects, and installations in the decommissioning phase. With over 60 years of international experience in various technologies across more than 380 reactors worldwide, the Installed Base BU employs 4,600 staff in 15 countries and aims to deliver innovative products and services to guarantee a safe, competitive, low carbon source of energy.
EDF EPR Engineering UK (EPR-E) is a subsidiary of Edvance, a joint venture between EDF and Framatome, established in 2018 to design and realize nuclear islands for new projects in France and globally. EPR-E is responsible for the design and construction of the nuclear island for the Hinkley Point C (HPC) project and is preparing for the Sizewell C (SZC) project.
We are looking to recruit for the role of Mechanical Calculation Engineer. As an integral member of EPR-E, your primary responsibility will be to ensure the integrity of the pipe network design and its supporting structures by performing detailed piping calculations and assessing HVAC and electrical supports for various load scenarios, including dead weight, thermal expansion, and seismic activity.
Expertise in finite element analysis software is essential, and knowledge of Python programming is advantageous for developing specialized tools.
Profile
To be considered, the following Qualifications, Experience, and Skills are essential:
* Outstanding communication abilities, both in writing and speaking.
* In-depth understanding of mechanical concepts, including modal and static analysis.
* Proficiency in mechanical simulations, particularly using finite element methods.
* Programming proficiency, especially in Python, for developing computational tools.
* Experience with CAD software for design and modeling.
* Familiarity with industry standards and regulatory compliance related to mechanical engineering.
* Innovative problem-solving abilities to tackle complex engineering challenges.
* Commitment to continuous learning and staying updated with the latest technological advancements in the field.
Desirable Qualifications, Experience, and Skills include:
* Experience in previous EPR or other nuclear projects.
* Experience of UK design context and regulatory processes.
* High level of technical coordination.
* Experience in RSTAB or BEAM STRESS and support calculation.
* Knowledge of RCC-M code (section C3650 at least).
* Knowledge of CALTUY/Pipestress.
* French language skills (bonus).
This position will be based in Aztec West (Bristol) - Minimum 3 days in the office.
