Position Summary
Based out of New Glasgow, Halifax or Mississauga, the Director, External Reporting is a key collaborator and contributes to Crombie’s success by acting as a strategic business partner, entrusted with the strategic oversight external reporting functions. The Director, External Reporting plays a critical role in ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of all external financial reporting for Crombie and is fundamental to aligning operational processes with Crombie’s organizational strategy. Additional duties of the Director, External Reporting include but are not limited to:
* Oversees the preparation and review of the MD&A and Financial Statements (FS) to ensure accuracy, compliance with regulatory standards, and alignment with Crombie’s strategic goals.
* Manages the relationship with PwC, ensuring smooth coordination and communication during audits and reviews.
* Oversees joint venture (JV) reporting, ensuring timely and accurate financial information is provided to partners and stakeholders.
* Reviews and signs off on working papers, ensuring completeness and accuracy before submission.
* Develops and establishes accounting policies that align with best practices and regulatory requirements.
* Creates and maintains accounting position papers to support Crombie’s accounting policies and procedures.
* Ensures internal and external audit compliance, leading efforts to address any findings or recommendations.
* Oversees the HST/QST reporting, ensuring timely and accurate submissions.
* Oversees Crombie’s tax filings and reporting, ensuring compliance with all relevant tax regulations.
* Facilitates all tax modeling activities, working closely with internal and external stakeholders to optimize tax outcomes.
* Provides guidance and oversight for the review of unit-based compensation, ensuring compliance with accounting and tax regulations.
* Oversees the property appraisal process, ensuring accurate and timely valuations are conducted.
* Chairs the Valuation Committee, driving discussions and decisions around property valuations and related financial implications.
* Oversees the fair value model for investment properties (IP) and joint ventures (JV), ensuring accurate and up-to-date valuations.
* Participates in the design and execution of complex transactions, providing expert financial and accounting guidance.
* Reviews and provides input on transaction agreements, ensuring financial and accounting implications are fully understood and addressed.
* Offers guidance and support to other departments as needed, leveraging your expertise to drive success across the organization.
* Cultivates strong working relationships internally across all departments and builds relationships with external partners and stakeholders.
* People leadership:
* Ensures all team members have a clear understanding of corporate and departmental objectives and are held accountable to meet performance standards and objectives.
* Leads a team that is strategically aligned with and understands the organization’s strategy, is engaged, and represents Crombie guiding values.
* Supports and develops direct reports to ensure they are prepared and empowered to supervise, manage and coach their teams.
* Engages across all levels of the organization to create and promote a safe and respectful work environment.
* Other special projects and tasks as assigned.
The profile we are looking for
Our ideal candidate will have:
* Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or another related field.
* Minimum of five (5) years of experience in external reporting, financial analysis, or related roles, with significant leadership experience.
* Strong knowledge of relevant accounting standards.
* Experience managing relationships with external auditors and tax authorities.
* Proven ability to lead complex transactions and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
* Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
