UHNM Clinical Spine Fellowship - February 2026

We are delighted to be able to offer an opportunity for highly motivated, ambitious individuals to join our UHNM clinical spine fellowship programme. The post is for 12 months (although 6 month tenures will be considered depending on circumstances).
Main duties of the job
The UHNM Spine Service is a combined orthopaedic and neurosurgical service in a busy hospital that has MTC, Children's Hospital and Cancer Centre status. We are a quaternary spine service providing the full range of spine surgery including procedures for degenerative disorders, complex reconstruction, deformity (paediatric and adult), trauma, metastatic and infection. Successful candidates will work across 2 Sites (Royal Stoke University Hospital and County Hospital) for outpatient and inpatient experience. The candidates will have the opportunity to have exposure to adult and paediatric spine surgery.
The post-holder will undertake operative procedures under supervision of a number of different consultants to maximize training in a range of techniques and exposure to a variety of tips to avoid pitfalls.
Candidates will:
1. Work with a highly skilled multidisciplinary team of experienced specialists (doctors, nurses, therapists, pharmacists, managers and clinical administrators) that encourages clinical excellence and high standards of care to a diverse community of patients and their families.
2. Be part of a department looking to innovate new ways of managing acute and complex patients
3. Receive specialty spine surgical training and development to the standard required of a first year consultant.

7. MBBS or equivalent
8. GMC registration
9. FRCS orth or neurosurgery or equivalent
10. CCT or equivalent

Clinical Skills and knowledge

12. A minimum of 1 year of prior satisfactory spine training equivalent to UK ST3 to ST8 level training
13. Evidence of clinical experience in spine surgery (assessment, working diagnosis, managing common medical and spine emergencies)
14. Evidence of being aware of limitations
15. Evidence of satisfactory general operative skills
16. Evidence of clear personal objectives for the fellowship training
17. ALS certification and ATLS

19. 2 years of registrar level spine training
