Post holder's will provide leadership and support to staff within Critical Care and are accountable for the standard of care delivery, communication and involvement of patients and their families in the clinical area. They are accountable for the delivery of Excellent, Safe and Compassionate care.
The Post holder will participate in 24-hour Critical Care Leadership within LHCH and will provide ongoing responsibility for the operational effectiveness of the Critical Care Unit.
The post holders will actively lead effective multidisciplinary team working and family centered care.
The post holders are accountable for staff development, their welfare, attitude, and skills so they can practice safely and effectively.
Main duties of the job
1. Maintains a highly visible clinical presence.
2. The post holder will ensure that all areas of practice adhere to all current NMC Guidance.
3. Undertake day to day management of the department, coordinating all aspects of the service.
4. Establish Standards of nursing care and ensure these are always delivered by regularly monitoring and evaluating patient outcome.
5. Ensure staffing levels and skill mixes are adequate to facilitate Patient Flow within the unit. Able to assess the short term and the medium-term clinical needs of the area and plans to ensure that they are met. Will seek advice and support from outside the clinical area when necessary.
6. Allocate the nursing resource appropriately, based on patient dependency (Levels 3/2 and those patients requiring more than 1 - 1 nursing) predicting needs over a 24-hour period.
7. To be responsible for the daily planning and coordination of the Critical Care Unit inclusive of elective and emergency admissions, maintaining a high moral and cohesive team approach to patient care through wards, theatres, and the Critical Care area.

Job responsibilities
1. To be responsible for the daily planning and coordination of the Critical Care Unit inclusive of elective and emergency admissions, maintaining a high moral and cohesive team approach to patient care through wards, theatres, and the Critical Care area.
2. Accountable for embedding the Patient and Family Experience Vision in the culture of the Unit.
3. Ensure the Unit culture is one where every patient is treated as an individual.
4. Seek every opportunity to involve family (as identified by the patient) in care and communication.
5. Ensure staff undertakes shadowing to further embed our approach to patient and family centered care.
6. Deputize for Critical Care Matron in times of absence.
7. Support the wider trust team as capacity management in times of Business Continuity Planning and emergencies.
8. Aware of the Critical Incident plan and participate with the wider hospital team in major incident planning.

* Bachelor of Science (Degree)
* 5 years post registration with 2 years at Band 6
* Post Registration Qualification within critical care
* Management leadership course or equivalent proven management ability
* Teaching and Assessing mentorship Qualification
* ALS provider
* CALS Provider
* Working towards critical care step 4 competencies
* Relevant post registration clinical experience in critical care
* Band 6 Team leader clinical expert
* Experience in managing other staff groups
* Initiation and implementation of change
