Position Information:
Durham College is seeking an experienced and motivated professional who shares our commitment to quality and student success. The Faculty of Hospitality and Horticultural Science is currently recruiting part-time professors to teach in Fall 2024 across a range of courses in Horticulture Technician, Food and Farming, Hospitality, Special Events, Tourism – Destination Marketing, and Culinary Management programs. There is currently a need for individuals with professional experience and a passion for teaching and learning in the following areas:
1. Marketing for Hospitality and Tourism
2. Digital Marketing
3. Computers for Hospitality
4. Accounting & Finance
5. International Tourism
6. Event planning and logistics
IMPORTANT NOTE FOR PART-TIME FACULTY APPLICANTS:
The responsibilities of Durham College Part-time Professors include, but are not limited to:
1.Creating a positive learning environment that accommodates students’ diverse cultural and educational backgrounds, experiences, and individual learning styles;
2.Utilizing principles of adult education to actively engage students in the learning process;
3.Effectively using educational technologies to support learning, manage and post grades, and deliver hybrid and on-line courses;
4.Developing curriculum that uses appropriate strategies and tools to assess student learning;
5.Ensuring that course and program curriculum is current and relevant;
6.Working independently and demonstrating initiative; and
7.Working effectively with students, the program team, and a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
The ideal candidate will meet or exceed the following qualifications:
7. A relevant degree combined with industry credentials (Masters is recommended).
8. A minimum of five years of recent (within the past three years) and relevant work experience.
9. Teaching experience at the post-secondary level with a demonstrated understanding and application of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and current assessment methodologies.
10. Experience participating in industry-led or community-based applied research is an asset.
11. Demonstrated commitment to putting the student experience first.
12. Demonstrated use of current technologies to support student learning and the management of grades.
13. Proven track record of life-long learning.
14. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a variety of internal and external stakeholders including students, faculty, support staff, administrators and community stakeholders.
15. Understanding of the Ontario college system.
