This role involves but is not limited to:
1. Development of a high performance Management Accounting team that is able to scale to meet the demands of a growing business by ensuring performance is effectively monitored and recognising where developmental and training needs arise.
2. Manage the monthly financial close process including full responsibility for the general ledger, preparation of journal entries, supporting documentation and subsequent P&L and Balance Sheet reconciliations.
3. Ensure all financial data is accurately captured in the financial systems.
4. Provide critical analysis of P&L and Balance Sheet variances using advanced Excel skills and writing of clear, concise commentary to aid understanding of key drivers and performance against budget and prior year results.
5. Produce monthly financials for consolidation into the Group results.
6. Active involvement in the implementation and adoption of a new finance system supporting the wider Finance team and business.
7. Manage cashflow and balances in accordance with direction from the Financial Controller.
8. Review the preparation of quarterly VAT returns and support the Financial Controller in a review of current VAT registrations.
9. Effectively communicate issues and provide advice to other offices, the rest of the Finance team (Accounts Payable, Cashiers, Billing & Credit Control) and the wider Finance team within the Group.
10. Assist the Financial Controller in developing and delivering internal reporting of all aspects of Fee Earners’ revenue and performance.
11. Support the Management Accountants in resolving legacy issues and perform an overall tidy up and streamlining of existing month end reconciliations.
12. Support the development of financial controls and processes helping to ensure these are both effective and efficient.
13. Focus on continual process improvement in all aspects of the role from a technology, control and organization perspective while producing high quality documentation.
14. Act as coach and mentor to less experienced people in the team helping them to resolve queries on technical accounting, systems and processes.
15. Assist with the annual financial audit process ensuring all information requested by external auditors is produced accurately and in a timely manner.
16. Respond to ad-hoc information requests and performing ad-hoc data analysis.
Requirements:
1. Qualified accountant with strong financial and management accounting background.
2. Accounting qualification (ACA, ACMA, ACCA or equivalent).
3. Legal experience preferred but not essential.
4. Experience of working for a company where accounts are prepared under IFRS.
5. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
6. The ability to business partner with the wider business and to manage relationships and communicate at all levels.
7. Self-motivated and driven to continually improve processes and seek new challenges.
8. Experience of working in high performing teams with an ability to multi-task and meet tight deadlines.
9. Ability to work well independently and as part of a team providing support to others.
10. Ability to operate in a professional, calm and friendly manner.
11. Competent in Microsoft Office.
12. Strong systems knowledge; experience of system implementations would be beneficial.
13. Willingness and fast ability to pick up new systems.
14. High levels of attention to detail.
