An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Health Care Assistant on Ward 4E. The new post holder will join our already existing, dedicated and friendly team of staff on the Critical Care Unit at Whiston Hospital.
Our Critical Care Unit has 14 beds and we care for patients requiring both level 2 and 3 care.
We expect the post holder to rotate to both days and nights, as well as being flexible in their approach to assisting in the care delivered to critically ill patients.
The post holder will be expected to deliver care of the highest standard and work closely with other members of the multi-disciplinary team. The ability to work as part of a team is essential.
An Enhanced DBS with barred lists for both Adults & Children is required for the post.
KEY DUTIES
1. To work as part of the Nursing Team undertaking household support tasks and direct care tasks as delegated by the Nurse in Charge.
2. To support the qualified Nursing Staff in the maintenance of high standards of nursing care to patients.
3. To assist in providing an environment within the ward that is conducive to patient recovery and pleasant for patients and their families.
4. To accept responsibility for specifically delegated functions within the ward which the Nurse in Charge feels are appropriate for untrained staff to undertake.
5. To ensure where entries are made in nursing documentation, that these are correct, legible and comprehensive and countersigned by a registered nurse.
6. To understand and adhere to all Trust Policies.
7. To ensure the Health and Safety of patients, relatives and other staff is considered and not prejudiced by the post-holder at any time.
Clinical & Professional Responsibilities
1. To ensure that privacy and dignity of patients is paramount and is not compromised.
2. To ensure that all patient information is confidential and is not disclosed to a third party except with permission of the Nurse in Charge.
3. To report any untoward incidents/occurrences.
4. To ensure that all patient care is delivered with the highest degree of professionalism.
5. To present an appearance which gives a positive image of the Trust and a manner which is appropriate and which inspires confidence.
6. To participate in an annual performance review undertaken with the Ward Manager to identify personal development needs.
Administrative Responsibilities
1. Ensure patient records are kept up to date and accurate and recording is done in line with Trust policies and procedures.
Teaching & Training Responsibilities
1. To attend specifically fire and lifting and handling lectures annually and ensure appropriate updates are attended once H.C.A. training is complete.
