An electrical/electronics engineering organisation near Norwich airport is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to support continuous production within a clean, bright and open manufacturing facility.
A typical day in the life of a Manufacturing Engineer (ME) always starts with a Daily Management Team meeting to discuss what happened yesterday and what’s planned for today, determining who needs help in what area and what the team needs to do today to be successful.
Success revolves around assisting production teams with day-to-day issues in order to maintain continuous production. Monitored through an automated Line Down system this includes machine breakdowns, component evaluations to combat obsolescence and performance enhancements, and then improvement projects to Roll Through Yield (RTY).
RTY is the ME's primary KPI and is reported out to Senior Leadership at the end of each month along with countermeasures accompanying the monthly report out generated by the assigned ME product owner to address the gap to target.
ME projects to improve RTY and productivity whilst reducing waste run in parallel, ranging from simple assembly enhancements to full automation solutions.
In this role, you will own, maintain, and improve the manufacturability of new and existing products through design, development, troubleshooting, upgrading, and documentation of manufacturing processes. Exploring new technologies and manufacturing methods to improve efficiency and productivity.
Responsibilities
1. Provide day to day engineering support and expertise in production for released products.
2. Evaluate new and existing production lines to identify improvements to manufacturing process, analytical requirements, and equipment; advise appropriate engineering personnel on manufacturability, process robustness and equipment requirements.
3. Ensure the smooth transition of new products into manufacturing (NPI).
4. Co-ordinate the activities of personnel involved in engineering investigations and new product pilot runs.
5. Conduct tests and measurements throughout stages of process or analytical procedure development to determine process control and identify improvements; evaluate findings and coordinate with appropriate personnel to ensure adherence to specifications and execute improvements.
6. Maintain active and continuous contact (not restricted to formal meetings) with Engineering and Production.
The Team
The ME Team is a relatively small group of 13 individuals (7 in Norwich, plus more in Berlin) with a blend of knowledge and skills, encompassed through a range of ages.
The wider European team meets weekly to track and discuss issues on other sites to see ways in which they can help each other leverage their skill sets more effectively.
Experience
Education: Bachelor’s Degree - Science in Engineering or HND
Minimum of 3 years experience in Production Engineering.
1. Expert knowledge of electronic engineering principles, practices, and techniques commonly employed in the design and production of electronic products.
2. An in-depth understanding of Lean Manufacturing.
3. Excellent engineering & root cause analysis problem-solving skills.
4. Understanding Kaizen practices.
