Job overview
We have 1 full-time post available in the phlebotomy department at Walsall Manor Hospital. The post holder will carry out phlebotomy (blood sample collection) in the inpatient wards, outpatients department, and the antenatal clinic. We also cover two external sites for which training will be provided.
The post holder will participate in a 7-day rota including bank holidays. If you are enthusiastic, flexible, and take pride in your work, then this could be an opportunity for you.
Main duties of the job
The post-holder will undertake phlebotomy to effect timely investigations and treatments for adult patients.
* Perform phlebotomy on patients in the inpatient, outpatient, antenatal, and external sites as required.
* Provide and receive sensitive information from patients and their representatives.
* Correctly identify patients and label blood samples taken from them safely and accurately.
* Exercise autonomy within professional boundaries and verify specimen collection from phlebotomy ward collection sheets.
Person specification
QUALIFICATIONS
* Minimum of two GCSEs or equivalent
* Formal Phlebotomy training
* NVQ
EXPERIENCE
* Previous experience within the healthcare profession.
KNOWLEDGE
* Awareness of the anatomy and physiology relating to venepuncture and safe practice desirable.
* Awareness of local clinical policies and procedures.
* Awareness of policies regarding the reduction and identification of risk.
