Thrive Group Oldham are currently recruiting on behalf of Leicester County Council for a Casual Driver (Passenger Fleet).
Candidates require Children's & Adults DBS, as they will be delivering library books.
Summary of Day to Day Responsibilities:
1. Arrive at County Hall (vans are loaded already).
2. Both drivers go off on single man routes.
3. Some interactions with public and staff throughout the day. Must communicate well.
4. Delivering to 8 or 9 libraries per day.
5. Climbing in and out of the van, manoeuvring crates.
6. Moving up to 4 crates max at a time.
7. Using ramps.
8. Stacking them in designated area.
9. Collecting books from libraries and taking them to Glenfield.
10. Unpack collection crates.
11. Sort everything (1.5 hrs).
12. Get next day's paperwork and prepare for the next day.
13. Re-load van and take to County Hall.
14. Leave key for next day.
15. Communicate throughout the day with manager.
16. Opportunity to do minibus driving through LCC later on, once established with Jayne.
Safety boots & hi vis, DBS & Midas are all essential. Sat nav helps. Apple/Google maps etc.
Standard hours (non-guaranteed):
8am - 4pm Monday - Thursday
Friday 8am - 3:30pm
Flexible working hours / Bank shift style. Shadowing at first. Up to full-time for first two weeks. Then moving to casual basis to cover existing library driver's annual leave and occasional sickness leave.
3 routes for each van available. 2 vans (6 routes total). Must learn all 6 routes before starting.
Temporary. No permanent role guaranteed.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
1. To ensure that, before driving a vehicle, it is in a fit and serviceable condition by carrying out daily and weekly routine checks as directed. Report any defects on the appropriate form.
2. To drive any County Council operated vehicle as required in a safe manner and in compliance with Road Traffic Law.
3. To maintain all vehicles in a clean, hygienic, and tidy condition both inside and out at all times.
4. To undertake minor vehicle repairs with appropriate direction from Transport Officers / Vehicle Unit.
5. To assist the staff at any depot, operating centre, or unit to load, unload, secure and deliver any miscellaneous goods or equipment as directed.
6. To assist the passengers on and off the vehicle as well as assist with securing them and their wheelchairs in the vehicle with safety restraints.
7. To be responsible for the safety, general welfare and respecting the personal dignity of Service Users visited or passengers transported.
8. To work to pre-planned schedules/route lists and complete any record of work required by law or the County Council.
9. To communicate effectively with representatives of the County Council, Service Users, Carers, and members of the public.
10. To carry out or assist in driver/server duties on any Meals service provided by the County Council.
11. To provide detailed geographical and other information when required enabling efficient route planning and vehicle scheduling.
12. To report all vehicle accidents and complete relevant documentation as soon as practicable.
13. To return the vehicle to allocated depot, ensuring completion check has been carried out.
14. To drive vehicles to and from maintenance depots for servicing and repairs.
15. The post holder will be required to complete and arrange attendance onto compulsory training courses during the year.
16. Such other duties as required commensurate with the grading of the post.
