Overview
The Theatre Practitioner plays a vital role in the surgical team, providing high-quality care to patients undergoing surgical procedures. This position requires a dedicated professional with a strong understanding of anatomy and physiology, as well as expertise in patient care and aseptic techniques. The Theatre Practitioner will work closely with surgeons, anaesthetists, and nursing staff to ensure that all aspects of the surgical process are conducted safely and efficiently.
Duties
* Prepare the operating theatre prior to procedures, ensuring all necessary equipment and instruments are sterile and ready for use.
* Assist in the administration of anaesthesia and monitor patients' vital signs during surgery.
* Maintain a sterile environment throughout the procedure, adhering strictly to aseptic techniques.
* Provide direct patient care before, during, and after surgical procedures, ensuring comfort and safety.
* Collaborate with the surgical team to analyse patient needs and respond effectively during operations.
* Document patient information accurately and maintain medical records in accordance with hospital policies.
* Participate in post-operative care, including monitoring recovery and addressing any complications that may arise.
* Engage in continuous professional development to stay current with best practices in theatre operations.
Skills
* Strong knowledge of anatomy and physiology essential for effective patient assessment and care.
* Proficient in basic life support techniques to respond to emergencies within the theatre environment.
* Experience or knowledge in critical care or ICU settings is highly desirable.
* Familiarity with medical terminology to communicate effectively within the healthcare team.
* Ability to analyse situations quickly and make informed decisions under pressure.
* Understanding of paediatrics is an advantage when working with younger patients.
* Excellent interpersonal skills to provide compassionate patient care and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
