Development Engineer
A national house builder has a requirement for a Development Engineer to oversee the construction of the infrastructure and supervise site works across open space areas through to adoption on housing developments across the North West.
About the Development Engineer role
Reporting to the Technical Manager, you will be the link between the site team and the technical team providing technical guidance for new build housing developments. Duties to include:
1. Ensure infrastructure works on a development are constructed in accordance with the drawings and specifications and to an agreed programme.
2. Oversee the laying out of open spaces and play areas and ensure prompt handover to management company.
3. Assess technical viability of new sites.
4. Assist in the production of layouts and technical reports for land appraisals and required working drawings.
5. Brief and commission site investigations, topographical surveys, and other assessment reports.
6. Brief engineering consultants on scope of design.
7. Work with the in-house design team to ensure timely initial submissions are made for approval by statutory authorities (e.g. S104, S38, S278).
8. Take the lead in fee negotiation and the appointment of consultants.
9. Assist with the statutory approvals e.g. S104 & S38 agreements.
10. Assist with the initial stage of infrastructure delivery on new sites, including services and diversions/disconnections.
11. Assist with the technical and commercial teams in issuing tender drawings to contractors, assessing them on return.
Development Engineer experience required:
1. Good engineering knowledge and experience providing technical support/supervision on roads, sewers, earthworks, foundations, and multi-utility services (essential).
2. Understanding of Section 38 and Section 104 agreements (essential).
3. HNC or above in Civil Engineering (desirable).
4. Track record in delivering building control approvals.
5. Experience of managing external consultants.
6. Keen eye for detail and ability to process technical information.
7. Comfortable using engineering-related software like AutoCAD, PDS, and Microdrainage.
