Skills for Security, the leading provider of apprenticeships to the Fire and Security sector, is looking to recruit an enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and passionate Functional Skills Tutor on a full-time basis as part of a national provider awarded Apprenticeship Provider of the Year in the Manufacturing and Engineering category of the Annual Apprenticeship Awards 2023. Reporting to the Lead Learner Support Tutor, you will support our apprenticeship learners requiring a functional skills qualification. You will be organized and methodical with a strong attention to detail, working within the stipulated requirements of the ESFA and Ofsted, always focusing on the learners' journey. You should be energetic, professional, remain calm under pressure, and be able to adapt to and support change. An eagerness to learn, the ability to use your own initiative, and the capacity to work well with others will support a positive approach to your work. Above all, this role requires an individual with passion and determination to help ensure our learning extends beyond the academic, vocational, and technical, positively influencing the learners' personal lives and preparing them for modern Britain. Please note that sector competence in the Fire and Security sector is NOT required for this role. Role requirements Support a caseload of learners ensuring mandatory progress and achievements in functional skills English and mathematics are completed in a timely manner. Drive the quality of education across all areas of responsibility. Conduct monthly interventions to monitor progress and set action plans as required. Take responsibility for actions associated with the chasing of learners who miss scheduled sessions. Create weekly and monthly reports pertaining to ‘at risk’ learners in relation to funding compliance. Report non-engaged employers and learners to the Apprenticeship Manager and lead on associated remedial action. Continually review processes informed by system and legislative requirements. Provide pastoral support and mentorship to those learners in your caseload. Maintain a strong link with the wider delivery team to communicate essential information pertaining to individual learners. Any other duties as required. Person requirements Ability to be adaptable and solve problems. A strong and adaptable communicator. Experience of delivering functional skills English and mathematics is essential. Familiarisation with the functional skills assessment process. Prior approval with an Awarding Organisation (preferably Highfield ABC). Post 16 tutor qualification (PTTLS, AET, cert/Ed, PGCE etc.). Proven track record of managing a caseload of learners. Experience with apprenticeship, traineeships, and/or regulated qualifications is desirable but not essential. Experience using MS Word, MS Excel, MS Teams etc. Experience using a Learner Management System (LMS) and other online learning platforms such as BKSB and CognAssist is desirable but not essential.
