We are delighted to be able to offer an opportunity for a highly motivated, ambitious individual to join our well-integrated team as a less than full time 8PA Consultant in Paediatric Neurodisability. This is an enhanced clinical post, designed to support the continuing development of our clinical service. The successful candidate will join a vibrant Paediatric Neurology & Neurodisability department composed of 1 NHS Consultant in Paediatric Neurodisability, 1 Clinical Academic in Paediatric Neurodisability, 5 NHS Paediatric Neurologists, 3 Clinical Academic Paediatric Neurologists and a comprehensive team of allied health professionals.

Main duties of the job
This is a less than full time post (8 PA). Applications are invited from candidates with training and a passion for Paediatric Neurodisability. We are looking for a candidate to complement the current needs of the service, which include working within the posture and movement service and developmental vision service. The candidate will be assessing and treating these conditions and would require skills in specialist upper limb assessments, functional vision assessments, and delivery of botulinum toxin injections.
Job responsibilities
There are no on-call duties with this post. The proposed timetable for the successful applicant would include the following duties:
Managerial:
1. Participate in all aspects of Clinical Governance, making a significant contribution to multidisciplinary quality improvement, audit, and risk management activities in the care of children and their families.
2. Assist the Directorate Manager and Clinical Director in the timely investigation of complaints working to provide reports within the timeframe set out by Trust policy.
3. Contribute to the general organisation and running of paediatric services within the Trust, working in collaboration with colleagues.
Administrative:
1. Undertake administrative duties in relation to the care of patients and in relation to the running of the Childrens Services Directorate.
2. Become involved with the financial management of the paediatric departmental budget.
Research:
1. Participate in research activities that complement the service provided.
Teaching:
1. Contribute to focused paediatric neurodisability post-graduate teaching and to the higher specialist training of specialist registrars in paediatric neurodisability and neurology.
2. Participate in the teaching of undergraduate medical students from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne.
Person Specification
Education, Qualifications and Specialist Skills
* Primary Medical Qualification
* Full GMC Registration
* Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register (within 6 months from the date of the AAC)
* MRCPCH or equivalent
* Special skills and training in Paediatric Neurodisability and Neurology
* CCT in Paediatric Neurodisability
* Higher Degree
* Leadership and training experience
Clinical Experience
* Evidence of a substantial commitment to the specialty
* Broad experience of tertiary clinical paediatric neurodisability and neurology
* Specialist expertise within paediatric neurodisability (for example, dysphagia, vision, motor disorders) and botulinum toxin injections
* Paediatric Neurodisability and Neurology training in a recognised national training centre
* Demonstrably competent to complete the clinical duties described in the job plan
* Ability to offer an expert clinical opinion within the speciality
* Ability to take independent responsibility for the clinical care of patients referred to a tertiary centre
* Experience in more than one paediatric neurodisability / neurology centre
Management and Administration Experience
* Ability to run a service and participate in management processes
* Involvement with paediatric neurodisability management and project leadership within the specialty
* Ability to critically appraise clinical guidelines, particularly with regards to paediatric neurodisability
* Must work well as a team member
* Proven management and administrative experience and understanding of management goals
Teaching
* Experience of supervising junior medical staff
* Experience of participation in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching
* Ability to teach clinical / technical / practical skills
Research
* Evidence of involvement in and understanding of research methodology and publication of findings
Audit
* Evidence of participation in audit
* Evidence of having changed practice as a result of audit

Salary: £105,504 to £139,882 a year per annum pro rata
