Job Summary
TUV Rheinland industrial services is looking for a Inspection Engineer CAT 2. The Inspection Engineering reports to the Local Head of department / Team Leader for team of Inspection staff. For large shutdowns the inspector is required to coordinate their work with other inspectors. For repairs and fitness for service the inspector coordinates with functional engineers to define the optimum solution.
This role focuses on Inspection and Certification of pressurised static equipment. vessels, tanks, piping, relief devices, to meet regulatory and client requirements.
Main Accountabilities:
1. Preparing and reviewing Written Schemes of Examination (WSE)
2. Identifying preparation requirements from the WSE
3. Examination in accordance with the WSE
4. Undertaking simple NDT – ultrasonic thickness checks, magnetic particle, dye penetrant
5. Coordination of NDT providers for extensive requirements or specialist methods,
6. Preparation of clear reports including photographs
7. Assessment of deterioration
8. Reviewing design calculations and sentencing defects
9. Coordinating repairs.
10. Participation in Risk Based Inspection studies
Position Interactions:
11. This role requires interaction with client maintenance managers and technical staff. Also the Inspector will on behalf of TÜV or the client coordinate NDE contractors and oversee repair / fabrication activities at fabricators premises.
12. Other Inspectors, Senior Inspection Engineers, Inspection Managers, Functional (vessels, piping, materials) Engineers, Fabricators, Client Operations and Maintenance staff.

14. Full driving license and willingness for UK travel essential
15. Meeting statutory reporting requirements
16. Able to deliver and discuss unexpected / difficult findings
17. Meeting tight deadlines
18. Able to interpret engineering drawings and data
19. Confident in use of IT software
20. Working at heights and in confined spaces
21. Willing to work extended hours to cover maintenance events
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Essential:
22. Good verbal and written communication skills
23. Eye for detail
24. Ability to accurately follow procedures
25. Understanding of engineering principles
26. Able to make and defend difficult decisions
27. Ability to interact and work with others
28. Mechanical Engineering background
Desirable:
29. Chemical or oil and gas sector experience
30. Understanding of fabrication or repair of pressure equipment
31. Experience of non-destructive examination techniques
32. Man management experience
Qualifications and Experience:
33. HNC/Degree Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)
34. Incorporated Engineer status desirable
35. At least 5 years’ experience within a relevant engineering discipline of which at least one year** shall have been spent working within an engineering discipline associated with in-service inspection of pressure systems
