Our client, a multidisciplinary Marine and Environmental Surveying company based in Bridgend, South Wales, is seeking a Senior Hydrographic Surveyor to join their team.
This is a full-time permanent position, working Monday to Friday, 9:00-17:30.
This role is primarily office-based with 80-120 days offshore annually. Currently, it involves 3 weeks on-call followed by 3 weeks office-based, with approximately 80-120 field days per year.
You must live or be willing to relocate to a commutable distance of the office in Bridgend, South Wales.
As the Senior Hydrographic Surveyor, your responsibilities include mobilising and calibrating survey equipment, data acquisition, processing, and QA/QC of data.
* Relevant degree with at least 4 years of industry experience in a similar role.
* Extensive experience in Hydrographic and Geophysical surveys, preferably in a leading role.
* Knowledge of industry-standard software such as QINSy, PDS2000, POSPac MMS, Trimble Business Centre, Caris HIPS and SIPS, Geosoft Oasis Montaj, AutoCAD, and QGIS.
* Experience with Multibeam data processing, GNSS data processing, Geophysical data processing, UXO data processing, along with tidal, acoustic theories, and geodesy.
* Background in geophysical surveys is advantageous.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office packages (Word, Excel).
* Possession or progression towards a commercially endorsed RYA/MCA Powerboat Advanced qualification or higher.
* Strong teamwork and communication skills.
* Fluent in English, both oral and written.
* Problem-solving skills, initiative, and flexibility.
* Full Clean Driving License.
As a senior team member, your role involves client liaison, Party Chief activities, survey execution, and mentoring less experienced surveyors. You will develop leadership skills to optimise vessel and crew efficiency and demonstrate a flexible, proactive approach, essential in the nearshore survey market.
Job brief:
* Mobilisation and demobilisation of survey equipment, including calibration and verification.
* Equipment interfacing and tune-up onboard.
* Survey equipment maintenance.
* Working mainly from UK ports for several weeks at a time.
* Participating in the company’s field rota, currently 3 weeks on-call, 3 weeks office-based, with 80-120 field days annually.
* Data processing and reporting for office and field data.
* Liaising with clients to understand their technical project specifications.
* Supporting Principal Surveyors and Project Managers to deliver projects according to client specifications from start to finish.
* Ensuring all activities comply with company IMS systems.
* Mentoring and training less experienced surveyors.
