Now part of the Genuit Groups’ Climate Management Solutions (CMS) business unit, ADEY has ambitious growth plans. The Role Evaluate the design across all projects, working closely with design engineers on all stages of development for new/existing products from concept to pre-production stages of the NPI/ECR process. Proposing design changes or alternative solutions and ensuring manufacturability and product integrity. Key contact for all technical issues within the R&D department, supporting other engineers as well as other departments. To develop new and existing product range for continued use within the HVAC industry through innovative ideas and problem solving techniques. Manage and provide solutions to problems with product or processes within the R&D departments and suggest improvements where necessary. As well as the key player for technical issues within the department, you will be responsible for managing your own projects from concept stage to production (cradle to grave) including sketching, calculations, detailed drawings and testing etc. You will be responsible for key stages of NPI/ECR process and ensuring milestones are met and the design meets the specification as well as compliance/regulations. You will closely work with the product manager and project team to meet business needs as well as provide regular updates, you must possess the drive and passion required to meet timescales. Some UK and overseas travel may be required. You must possess experience and design skills to suit a range of manufacturing processes including (but not limited to injection moulded components, CNC machined components and investment cast components, fabricated assemblies and high-volume manufacture. You must also have extensive materials knowledge especially with injection moulding polymers, material suitability and selection. To mentor and guide less experienced Design Engineers throughout projects so they can benefit from knowledge and experience. Working hours: 37.5 hours, Monday to Friday, covering core hours 9am-4pm. Working style: Hybrid working with requirement to attend the office to meet business needs. Responsibilities Evaluate and support sound engineering design on all projects within Engineering team, working along side team members with regular design reviews, drawing checks and idea generation. Responsible for problem-solving and finding solutions to sometimes complex design problems across all projects. Support team members on all aspects of NPI/ECR stages across projects; from concept, detail design, est build costs. CFD/FEA analysis, FMEAs, test plans and sign off, material analysis, suitability and selection. Manage own projects and produce detailed 3D design to specification, including parts list, costing, calculations and testing etc, ensuring the development meets compliance standards and regulations. Ensuring thorough research and development testing is followed so all new products are reliable and FMEA is considered. Lead NPI projects to ensure all necessary milestones, meeting business needs and successfully handing over. Produce and evaluate technical reports and have a good file management approach to meeting ISO 9001 where the complete ECR/NPI process needs to be documented for traceability. Responsible for time management of own workload and projects. Lead, coach and mentor less experienced Design Engineers throughout projects to help achieve personal objectives. The Person The ideal candidate will have experience in the following areas: Injection moulded part design Moulding process and commissioning of tooling to enable production quality parts. FMEA (Failure Modes and Effects Analysis) Solidworks 3D CAD system Knowledge of manufacturing materials especially injection moulding polymers, material suitability and selection. Working with BS standards to develop designs. Project engineering skills Electro-mechanical products. Supervisory role in an engineering team. Experience and knowledge of PDM systems. Drawings for manufacture BS8888 Excellent written and verbal communication skills High volume manufacturing and assembly methods Machined Component design Design for manufacture Bill of materials Generating design concepts FEA (Finite Element Analysis) Pressure vessel design Ability to manage NPI/ECR projects Flow analysis (CFD) Strong experience in a design engineering role. Sound manufacturing knowledge and engineering principals. Knowledge of materials especially polymers Good management skills and ability to lead by example. Mechanical/Production or Electrical Engineering qualification. Apprenticeship/ONC/HNC or Degree level. Design for low and high volume manufacture. Design of injection moulded parts, castings, mechanisms, high precision machined components. Use of CAD. Calculations to support designs. Supervisory experience.
