Applications are invited for the position of Locum Consultant in Emergency Medicine. This is a fixed term post of 6 months (with a view to extend contract if required). The post will be based in the Emergency Department at Hull Royal Infirmary, part of the NHS Humber Health Partnership. The NHS Humber Health Partnership has an annual budget of circa £1.4 billion, employs over 17,000 staff and sees well over 1 million patients / year with around 275,000 attendances at the Emergency Departments.
The successful applicant will be part of a team of up to 23 Consultants. Clinical duties are shared between Consultants and will include all duties normally expected of any Major Trauma Centre Emergency Department. This includes clinical and non-clinical responsibilities.
Clinical sessions will be worked in the department seeing patients for senior decision-making and supporting the junior staff. This will include evening and weekend working. The shift pattern is described below.
Main duties of the job
A standard full-time Job Plan will contain 10 programmed activities.
Participation in audit/appraisal and CME is mandatory under clinical governance/GMC guidance. Successful applicants will be expected to support the junior staff induction program, departmental, regional and medical school teaching, as well as continued personal training development in areas identified in the appraisal process and supported in core objective setting in job planning.
Provision will be made within the Job Plan for CPD/Professional Development activities. Consultants will be given study leave in accordance with Trust-wide policy and will also be supported to take professional leave.
Consultants appointed to this post would be encouraged to expand on and develop any areas of special interest within emergency medicine. We would support innovative ideas and look to lead the way in defining the future of emergency care through great education, translation of research into practice and clinical excellence.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Full GMC registration with License to practice
* Entry on GMC specialist register (or entry expected within 6 months)
* FRCEM or equivalent
* Higher degree relevant to health care
Clinical Experience
* Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining UK CCST/CCT in Emergency Medicine
* Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on a range of problems within the specialty
* Ability to take full and independent responsibility for the clinical care of patients
* ATLS/ETC+ALS+EPALS/APLS provider (via course or supporting evidence of equivalent competence)
* Experience as a consultant in an adult Major Trauma Centre
* Experience as an ATLS, ALS or EPLS/APLS instructor
* Experience of advanced resuscitation skills
* Evidence of developing links with other acute specialties
* Expertise in bedside ultrasound
Management and Administrative Experience
* Ability to advise on efficient and smooth running of specialist services
* Track record in developing novel methods of care delivery in an Emergency department setting
Teaching Experience
* Experience of supervising junior medical staff
* Ability to teach clinical skills
* Experience of teaching basic clinical skills to undergraduates
* Experience in multidisciplinary teaching e.g. nurses, paramedics, Advanced care practitioners
