Job summary
General Practice Assistants provide a supporting role toclinicians. They carry outadministrative tasks and when necessary, some basic clinical duties, helping tofree up GP's time and improving patients' experience. We are looking for an enthusiasticand proactive trainee GP Assistant to join our friendly practices.
It would be an advantage to have a goodknowledge of the administrative processes in General Practice and haveexperience working on a clinical IT system. This is a development role andtraining will be provided in accordance with the national competency framework.
You will need to have excellent organisationalskills, good attention to detail and be able to communicate well.
Although the role is full-time, part-timeapplicants would be considered.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for someone with excellent communication skills and a commitment to working as part of a strong and effective team. We are open Monday to Friday from 8am to pm. You will be required to work shifts within these opening times and shifts that are rostered at least a month in advance.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
TheGP Assistant will support the doctors by:
Adding information tothe patient record using appropriate clinical coding.
Contacting patients toobtain information, share information and book appointments.
Actioning computertasks appropriately and in a timely manner.
Liaising with externalorganisations to obtain information.
Preparing and sending referrals,via the e-referral system.
Completing forms asmuch as possible, for scrutiny and signature by doctors.
Generating letters andelectronic messages on behalf of GPs.
Requesting pathology onthe ICE system.
TheGP Assistant will also carry out the following clinical tasks when asked to doso by a GP:
Dip a urine sample
Take a blood pressure
Do an ECG
Take a blood sample
PROFESSIONALDEVELOPMENT
TheGP Assistant will complete training on all areas within the Health EducationEngland General Practice Assistant Competency Framework
Toachieve this they will:
Undertake training on avariety of IT systems.
Develop a workingknowledge of all admin processes within the practices.
Develop and maintainbasic clinical skills.
Attend externaltraining courses.

Qualifications
Essential
1. Have completed or working towards completing the GP Assistant framework.
2. Have completed a phlebotomy course.
3. Can demonstrate Maths and English at GCSE level.
Experience

7. Have used clinical coding.
