About Us
Afterglow Interactive is an independent game development studio working on Target: Galaxy, a first-person action-investigation RPG set in a deep-space cyberpunk universe. We aim to push creative boundaries with immersive storytelling, innovative gameplay mechanics, and rich world-building.
Role Overview
We are seeking a passionate Unreal Engine Programmer to collaborate on the development of Target: Galaxy. This is a voluntary role designed for individuals looking to gain experience in game development, work in a team-driven indie environment, and contribute meaningfully to an ambitious project.
Key Responsibilities:
* Develop and implement gameplay systems in Unreal Engine 5 (Blueprints & C++).
* Collaborate with designers and artists to create engaging mechanics.
* Optimize performance, AI behaviour, and network functionality where applicable.
* Debug, refine, and iterate on core systems based on testing feedback.
* Work with a no-handholding design philosophy, ensuring players engage with a world driven by NPC dialogue, environment storytelling, and logical exploration.
Requirements:
* Experience with Unreal Engine 5 Blueprints and/or C++.
* Understanding of gameplay mechanics, AI behaviour, and optimization techniques.
* Problem-solving mindset and ability to work independently.
* A strong passion for sci-fi RPGs, immersive world-building, and systemic gameplay.
* Bonus: Experience with networking, procedural generation, or AI development.
