Associate Director, Performance & Insight

As the Associate Director of Performance and Insight, you will provide strategic leadership in performance analytics, operational delivery and efficiency, and business intelligence infrastructure across our Group of NHS Trusts. This role is critical in driving innovation, ensuring accountability, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
You will work collaboratively with senior leaders, clinical teams, and external stakeholders to align performance metrics with organisational objectives and improve patient outcomes.
To excel in this role, you will be an inspiring leader with a track record of implementing best-in-class data systems architecture, performance improvement, and leveraging data insights in a complex organisation. Your experience will include:
* Proven success in a senior performance management or data analytics role within the NHS.
* Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights.
* Experience in leading large, multidisciplinary teams and managing significant budgets.
* Experience in large business system design and implementation, notably oversight of reporting systems relating to an Electronic Patient Record deployment.
* Expertise in regulatory frameworks and performance reporting requirements within the healthcare sector.
* Outstanding communication and stakeholder management skills.
* A postgraduate qualification in a relevant field (e.g., Business Analytics, Health Management, Data Science) is desirable.
Main duties of the job
* Develop and implement a comprehensive performance and insight framework aligned with the Trust's strategic goals.
* Lead the delivery of high-quality performance data, analysis, and reports to inform decision-making at all levels.
* Oversee the integration of data analytics with operational planning to drive efficiencies and enhance service delivery.
* Build and nurture a high-performing team focused on data governance, analytics, and performance improvement.
* Foster collaborative relationships with key stakeholders, including NHS England, Integrated Care Boards (ICBs), and other healthcare partners.
* Ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory reporting requirements.
* Provide expert advice to the executive team on performance trends, risks, and opportunities for innovation.

Person Specification
Knowledge and experience
* Experience as a senior manager within an NHS organisation in a performance, informatics or commissioning setting.
* Sound knowledge base of the NHS, the current issues, its values and principles of timely local access for the population.
* Experience within an acute hospital setting.
* Exceptionally high level of numeracy and ability in health-based statistical modelling.
* Proven record of leading complex, multifaceted management systems relating to performance and/or planning.
* A strategic thinker with highly developed communication and negotiation skills, coupled with commercial acumen.
* Demonstrable evidence of working at immediately sub-Board level.
* Significant experience of delivering complex strategic and operational planning data.
* Strong networker and relationship builder.
* Ability to give formal presentations.
* Significant experience of delivering complex strategic and operational planning frameworks.
* Demonstrable evidence of managing specialist multi-disciplinary staff as a coherent team.
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
* Evidence of leading the development of complex data analytics models.
* Experience of partnership working.
* Formal project management training.
Professional Competence
* Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly to diverse audiences.
* Strong organisational skills and experience managing multiple projects with competing deadlines. These should pertain to the deployment of large data management systems, ideally EPR in a NHS provider setting.
Qualifications
* Masters Degree Level Education or equivalent, gained in a health delivery related subject.
* Significant experience in the healthcare sector, minimum 5 years at senior level.
* PhD or advanced degree in data science, statistics, computer science, or related field.
