The School of Humanities at the University of Southampton is looking for a Lecturer in Humanities Data Science to join our team of dedicated researchers and educators, and to lead on our new MSc Digital Humanities (Data Science) which launches in Autumn 2025.
The School of Humanities at the University of Southampton encompasses a diverse range of subjects providing high-quality teaching within a vibrant research and enterprise culture. Southampton Digital Humanities contribute to that environment by enabling staff and students across the School of Humanities to take digital and computational approaches to humanities teaching, research, and enterprise.
You will have a PhD or equivalent professional qualification in digital humanities, computational humanities, or an aligned subject area. You will also have a growing and consistent reputation for research and education that takes computational approaches to humanities questions and problems (e.g. data/text mining, cultural analytics, network or geospatial analysis, machine learning, image/sound processing). You will have a track record of excellence in the development and delivery of teaching, ideally including experience of programme leadership in an educational context. While we welcome applications from those working in any area of computational humanities, we are particularly interested in candidates whose work engages with social and/or environmental justice.
This position will be offered on a full-time, permanent basis.
For an informal discussion of the post, please contact Professor James Baker (Director of Digital Humanities) by email at j.w.baker@soton.ac.uk.
