In relation to this post, this is a 10PA appointment for a Consultant in Infectious Diseases. The post will be based at St James's Hospital, Leeds General Infirmary & HIV outpatient service sites. The Infectious Diseases department (known as Infection & Travel Medicine) in Leeds is based on ward J20 within Gledhow Wing at St James's University Hospital and provides inpatient and outpatient services for the people of Leeds and surrounding areas. The 18 bed ward includes 14 isolation rooms (4 with negative pressure).
The department provides a 7 day a week Infectious Diseases service to the West Yorkshire Region. There are approximately 750 admissions per annum which are nearly all non-elective. Patients are usually admitted from the Trust's A&E departments, and Medical Assessment Unit, but may be referred from other wards within the Trust and other hospitals within the region. The department also works collaboratively with the department of microbiology to provide a consult service for other departments in the Trust for diagnosis and management of bacteraemias and complex infections.
Ward J20 acts as the Primary Treatment Centre for the West Yorkshire Regional HIV Network, and so takes admissions of HIV patients from around the region. It is also the regional centre for patients with multi-drug resistant tuberculosis. The department provides significant outpatient activity in Infectious Diseases and HIV. There is a well-established OPAT service run in partnership with Leeds Community Health NHS Trust.
Further detail of the service is provided at the end of the Job Description.
