Detailed job description and main responsibilities
1. To support the Oncology Unit Manager/Unit Co-ordinator by assisting the nursing team in the co-ordination of the Units activities to maximise efficiency and prevention of delays within the pathway.
2. Liaising with the nursing and oncology pharmacy staff to co-ordinate the supply of systemic anti-cancer treatments (SACT) so that it is available for the time of each patient's appointment.
3. Liaising between nursing staff, aseptic pharmacy, and outpatient pharmacy (TTO's) regarding patient attendance and communicating 'go ahead' or any delays.
4. Triaging telephone calls and providing basic advice, support, and signposting.
5. Liaising and referring to other appropriate healthcare professionals.
6. Ensuring that any investigations are booked, and the results reviewed and authorised appropriately prior to patients receiving treatment.
7. Ensure the appropriate management of patient information and the co-ordination of patient pathways through collaborative working with medical secretaries, MDT coordinators, clinical nurse specialists and other departments as required within the Trust.
8. To ensure the appropriate and timely booking of follow up outpatient appointments in conjunction with treatment appointments.
9. To support the nursing and pharmacy team in ensuring patients receive their supportive medication prior to discharge.
10. Refer patients to the community nursing team as directed by the nursing team.
Data Collection and Analysis
1. Collecting data for the Oncology Unit as requested by the Unit Manager or the Lead Nurse.
Quality Issues
1. Review the Units treatment schedule (Mosaiq), ensuring that appointments are correctly booked, and capacity is maximised.
2. Assist in the development of care pathways and implement improvements to the administrative element of the pathway.
3. Identify areas where targets are not achieved and undertake process mapping to identify bottlenecks and improve performance.

1. To participate and display a willingness to learn develop a relevant technical competency/area of interest and keep up to date with current local and national issues and developments.
2. To be responsible for own learning in knowledge base relevant to own clinical area including mandatory training.
3. To participate in regular formal supervision and develop a personal development plan that links into KSF and departmental competency frameworks to promote learning and enhance skills.
4. To be responsible for managing own daily timetable of delegated tasks including time for supervision and training.
Other responsibilities
1. To undertake any such duties as may be required from time to time, that are consistent with the responsibilities of the grade.
2. To comply with the Trusts and departments policies, guidelines, and procedures.
3. To attend all mandatory training as required in line with the Trust employment and professional need.
4. To participate in team meetings and the review and development of the SACT Service.
5. To be responsible for informing the line manager of any issues relating to the ability to safely carry out duties.
6. To be aware of departmental duties and initiatives to ensure a safe environment, recognising patients' requirements for privacy and dignity.
7. To recognise and comply with the Trust and departmental policies and procedures for incident reporting.
8. To always ensure confidentiality in accordance with Trust policy and procedure.
9. Cover the role of the Oncology Waiting List Co-ordinator and the other Oncology SACT Navigator in times of leave.
