Do you enjoy working outdoors and in a team? Do you have an interest in gardening? Would you like to work in one of our parks? Are you a keen gardener who knows his roses from his daisies? Can you spot a weed in a shrub bed, mow a lawn, or cut a hedge?
Worcester City Council is looking for a dedicated team player to support the Parks team with ground works and cleansing duties, keeping the public and the park green, safe, and secure. Can you confidently talk to park users about flowers in the shrub beds or supply local knowledge of the park areas when asked?
Your duties include working in the parks as part of a team of four operatives, looking after park maintenance including emptying bins, litter picking, mowing, maintaining flower beds, hedge cutting, and keeping paths clean and tidy. During summer opening times for Gheluvelt Park, you will also be responsible for the maintenance of the splash pad, testing water quality to ensure the safety of bathers. Full training will be provided to ensure you are competent and confident to carry out your duties.
The ideal candidate would have a horticultural diploma and great gardening knowledge, but the most important quality is a keenness to work hard and learn.
Please be aware you will be working to a split rota to cover park maintenance on weekends, working one in four weekends all year round. During the summer, your working times may change to cover the splash pad operation times; however, you will be entitled to an enhancement to your pay for working Sundays and will receive two days off during the week. You will be doing a normal 37-hour week, with the rota to be discussed at the interview.
If you feel this is the job for you, we would love to meet you. Please fill out the online application and supply us with a cover letter describing why you think this is the job for you. You must hold a full driver’s licence. Worcester City Council offers a great benefits scheme and pension package.
We welcome applications from all sections of the community. We would like to help you shine during this process. If you need any assistance with applying, please contact the Recruitment team at recruitment@worcester.gov.uk.
