The driving of all vehicles used by University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust as required within the requirements of the Road Traffic Act and within the legal limits of the licence groups held. The completion of daily checks and relevant documentation for any vehicle used in keeping with the Transport Department Policy. This is to include checking, and replenishing, if necessary, fuel, oil, water, tyre pressures and all relevant fluid or oil levels. To ensure the tyres, brakes, lights and steering operate in a safe and satisfactory manner daily before driving the vehicle on a public road.
Responsibility for the roadworthiness of any vehicle being used and the security, safety and stability of all loads carried. Cleaning the vehicle inside and out on a regular, as needed, basis. Reporting any accident, however minor, to the appropriate manager and completing all relevant documentation. Cleaning of service equipment including work surfaces and related equipment manually and by use of machines to hygiene standard.
To correctly use and take care of all equipment and materials associated with tasks and immediately report any faults to a supervisor. Support the team within the offsite facility if required. Ensure all relevant cleaning schedules are adhered to and signed on completion daily. Participate as a full member of the team, e.g., supporting and training other staff, participating in team meetings, working flexibly as required to cover other members of the team.
Reporting any defects on the vehicle. Keeping areas generally tidy. Checking the serviceability and cleanliness of manual handling equipment and sanitising when required. Accept deliveries, stock check, and prepare orders of stock.
Loading and unloading onto delivery vehicle using manual handling equipment. Store goods correctly and use stock efficiently. The safe loading and unloading of the vehicles recognising the requirements of The Manual Handling Regulations. To maintain the security, safety and stability of all loads carried throughout the working day is a legal requirement and remains the driver's responsibility.
This must always be taken into consideration when the vehicle is loaded. Work in an environment where the post could involve the manual handling of loads up to 150kg and on occasion heavier loads exceeding 200kg. Ensure utilisation of the correct support and equipment to undertake the correct manual handling of these loads. Work in an environment where there is occasional exposure to distressing or emotional circumstances and occasional exposure to highly unpleasant working conditions including (but not limited to): bodily odour and smells, bodily fluids, faeces, vomit, blood, injuries minor and major trauma.
Compliance with all the Policies and Procedures of the University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust particularly fire, COSHH and Health & Safety policies. Completion of all necessary documentation as required in relation to the post held. Understand own workload and undertake requests received by Trust Staff. Ability to work flexibly as some of our services include weekend and night working.
Ensure equipment is suitable for usage and report any problems via the appropriate person(s), remove from use until repaired and ensure the correct reporting/repair procedures are followed. Ensure that equipment is suitably maintained, cleaned, stored, and accessible and used safely in compliance with Trust policies and procedures. Maintain cleanliness of the work area, kept clear of waste and accessibility is maintained. To mentor new Staff as part of the induction process, thus helping them integrate into the Team.
Give advice and support when requested or needed. To work independently at times and as part of a team to undertake daily routine tasks. Demonstrate high standards of customer service through courteous interaction with patients and trust staff to optimise patient food and beverage consumption. Participate as a full member of the team, e.g., supporting and training other staff, participating in team meetings, working flexibly as required to cover other members of the team.
Support the continual quality initiative programme ensuring a quality first approach to all aspects of work within the work environment. Receive and escalate confidential enquiries from patients to the relevant persons concerned ensuring correct Policies and Procedures are always followed. Communicate/escalate any issues or risks relating to providing services to appropriate manager/persons. To be familiar with and adhere to the UK Data Protection Act 2018/UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), Health and Safety at Work Act. Adhere to all Trust policies and procedures. To attend in the event of a major incident alert and support Clinical/Non-Clinical Staff where required. Able to work flexibly to meet the varying needs of the service as directed by manager(s) and within scope of skill and capability. Ability to assist other roles within Site Services as the service requires.
Full training will always be provided. Carry out any other related duties as directed by the Team Leader and work in accordance with the individual systems of work devised for the area.
