Central Management Accounts cover the management accounting responsibilities for all eleven publishing divisions within Hachette UK. While ultimate responsibility lies with the divisional Finance Directors, we will prepare nearly all schedules, accruals, prepayments etc. for month end and will be responsible for reconciling the balance sheets. Outside of month end we are a focal point for finance-related processes and liaise with group departments and publishing divisions on: title profitability, royalty processes, stock analysis and sales at events, and many others.

What you'll be doing
The Senior Management Accountant will report to the Head of Management Accounts; they will be responsible for half of the Management Accounting team within the department and maintain close working relationships with the divisional Finance Directors and Finance Business Partners, as well as the Hachette Group Finance teams, particularly Systems/Stock Accounting, Royalties and Accounts Payable.
The Senior Management Accountant is responsible for ensuring accounting integrity in all management accounting activities. Supporting the Head of Management Accounts in the co-ordination and preparation of monthly management accounts packs, balance sheet reconciliations and other recurring and ad hoc reporting. The role has direct management responsibility of half of the Management Accountants/Assistant Management Accountants in the team.
You will:
* Be responsible for preparation of accurate and timely monthly management accounts
* Develop and continuously improve financial reporting procedures
* Be responsible for divisional finance reporting outputs
* Manage and develop the management accounting team
* Be responsible for clean balance sheet reconciliations
* Run cost accounting processes for the divisions, including cost management, accurate costings, closing costings, and reducing stock variances
* Ensure Accounts Payable runs smoothly for the divisions and work to reduce overdue payments
* Be responsible for ensuring the Central Management Accounts team meets all Group reporting requirements for the Group Finance Director, Financial Controller and their team, Group Executives, Hachette Livre
* Be responsible for clean divisional audits
* Deputise where necessary for the head of the department in relevant meetings and conversations

Who we are looking for
The ideal candidate will:
* Be a part-qualified accountant with 5-10 years accountancy experience
* Have experience within a complex systems environment (ideally Media/Publishing sector)
* Have excellent spreadsheet modelling skills
* Have good verbal and written communication skills
* Have the ability to analyse and evaluate commercial financial data
* Be skilled at presenting financial data in an easy-to-digest manner
* Be able to acquire in-depth knowledge of the company and its systems and processes
* Be able to organise their own workload and that of a wider team
* Be aware of the commercial environment and strategic position of the company

The role will be based at our London office, Carmelite House, with a blend of in-office (3 days) and homeworking (2 days) per week.
