Reporting to the M40 Service Delivery Manager, We are looking for a Day Works Manager who'll be responsible for all aspects of the day works and delivery of the maintenance contract on the M40 Motorway.
The Day Works Manager will oversee the efficient operation of the highway's incident support units, ensuring rapid response to incidents, effective management of day works, and compliance with safety and quality standards. This role ensures that projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards, while minimising disruption to traffic and local communities. The Day Works Manager will coordinate resources, manage teams, and liaise with relevant stakeholders to facilitate smooth operations during day shift hours. The role will ensure health, safety, quality, and environmental standards are maintained, and compliance with Egis codes of ethics and conduct are adhered to. In the first instance working closely with the Night Works Manager, and the Service Delivery Manager they will contribute to achieving contract safety, profitability, monitoring, and achieving performance targets. They will contribute to delivering the annual and routine works programme on time, ensuring all works are completed to the highest standard.
Job Description
* Ensuring all activities are completed safely in compliance with the company’s health and safety & environmental policies and procedures
* Ensuring the service delivery of the incident support units in responding to emergencies and incidents on the highway network as per contractual requirements.
* Oversee the day shift programme, including structures routine maintenance and cyclical works, and ensure all works are completed satisfactorily, and all relevant works documents are completed and filed in a timely manner.
* Ensure accurate records of works completed are inputted in a timely and contractual manner, and any failures reported back to the scheduling manager for re-planning.
* Ensure suitable supervision is in place for all relevant days works including, cyclical and planned activities and emergency works.
* Collaborate with traffic management teams to devise plans that minimise disruption to road users during day shift works and activities, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations
* Identify and ensure any appropriate training requirements including any identified by the Night Works Manager are agreed by the Service Delivery Manager. The Day Works Manager will then ensure that any briefings for staff on safety practices, equipment use, and project-specific requirements are conducted by the Trainer in a timely manner, fostering a culture of safety, continuous improvement and communication.
* Ensure all day works comply with health and safety regulations. Ensure that regular site inspections and safety audits to identify and risks all risks are removed or mitigated against
* Investigate any incidents or near-misses, documenting findings and implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence, escalating findings to ensure lessons learnt are captured
* Monitor work to ensure compliance with project specifications, quality standards, and contractual obligations. Conduct regular inspections and assessments of ongoing work
* Proactively identify and address and/or escalate any defects or non-conformances in a timely manner, coordinating rectification activities as required
* Ensure all necessary permits and approvals are obtained prior to commencing day works. Stay informed about relevant regulations and compliance requirements
* Implement environmental management plans to minimise the impact of day shift works and activities on the surrounding environment
* Responsibility for processes to ensure the supervision in place is suitably informed and trained to ensure ERO M40 can manage all risks associated with works delivery from a financial, quality, and safety perspective.
* Determine the levels of competence required to deliver the service and liaise with the Training team to ensure appropriate levels of competency are maintained, including suitable resilience.
* To provide support to the Service Delivery Manager enabling measurement, monitoring, reviewing, and reporting contract progress throughout the project’s lifespan.
* To identify performance issues of subcontractors with the Service Delivery Manager and, if required liaise with the commercial and admin teams and implement any corrective actions where necessary.
* Report any issues with fleet or plant to the Service Delivery Manager and provide support in rectifying issues where required, whilst looking for ways to innovate and provide a better service
* Collaborate and communicate with Night Works Manager, and QESH Manager to ensure all depots are maintained to the highest standards, are compliant with all legislation, and all plant and machinery is maintained and available for work.
* Proactively ensure adequate plant, labour and subcontract material and resources are available to comply with the programme of works and escalate any issues.
* Provide timely information and feedback as required by ERO M40 Management for reporting purposes.
* Support the Service Delivery Manager on the procurement of Specialist Highway Maintenance services.
* Be part of the Duty Manager and Winter Engineer rotation as per the pre-programmed rota, also provide Ad-Hoc support as required by the Service Delivery Manager.
* Attend regular calendared meetings with the Service delivery team discussing project planning, delivery, quality, and operational requirements. This role will also require the attendance at Ad-Hoc meetings as and when required.

* Develop and maintain a good working relationship with our client and partners.
* In conjunction with the Night Works Manager, provide information to the Service Delivery Manager on staff development and people management for the Service Delivery Team
* Work closely with other departments, contractors to facilitate effective incident response and day works delivery
Qualifications
* A good understanding of planning multi-disciplinary Highways Maintenance works at an operational level.
* Substantial experience managing / leading the delivery of Highways Maintenance operations at an Operational level.
* A demonstrable ability to identify areas for improvement, and implement change, through a combination of clear and effective communication, and a drive to succeed.
* Considerable and demonstrable experience of a high regard to safety and quality on a high-speed strategic road network.
* Strong ability to lead teams effectively, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
* Capable of making informed decisions under pressure, ensuring timely resolution of issues.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
* Flexible approach to managing changing priorities and working conditions during daytime hours
