We are seeking a highly motivated person to join the C3 team from December 2024 who has expertise in applied science, laboratory technician, facility management and administration to work with our scientists and engineers to develop world first technology innovation and deliver first of a kind pilot scale manufacturing platforms for our target products.
The Science and Administration Officer (Laboratory and Facility Technician) will provide a pivotal role supporting the overall delivery of the C3 Biotech research programmes. They will work directly with the Laboratory and Facility Manager and alongside the C3 Senior Scientist Team, the Principal Scientist and wider C3 administration and management team to ensure smooth day-to-day research operation of the laboratory and daily management of the C3 facility and company.
Responsibilities
The Science and Administration Officer (Laboratory and Facility Technician) will be skilled with experience in general microbiology and biochemical techniques as well as having an interest and experience in organisational administration ranging from Health and Safety systems, accounting, procurement, contract administration and project management.
You will:
* Work closely with the C3 team to help ensure timely and successful delivery of the research programmes,
* Coordinate research contracts, project manage novel equipment design and manufacture, act as a lead on organisational control systems such as ISO 27001, ISO9000,
* Ensure that laboratory and facility storeroom stocks are maintained, preparing lab reagent stocks including competent cells and large scale preparations of stock plasmids,
* Provide management, storage and curation of the collections of: DNA oligos, synthesized DNA/genes/enzymes, engineered microbial strains, and chemical compounds and extracts,
* Be responsible for documentation and archiving of DNA constructs and other research material generated during the course of the research project. Maintenance of an electronic database of all bio-parts generated,
* Responsibility for maintenance and updating of laboratory and facility COSHH documents, protocols and risk assessments,
* Support everyday smooth operation of the C3 laboratory and equipment space,
* Provide routine maintenance of equipment in the laboratory and facility,
* Liaise with laboratory and facility suppliers and procure goods as needed. When goods delivered ensure order fulfilment, delivery documents align to Purchase Orders and ensure company accounting database is up to date and complete,
* Maintenance of general laboratory chemical stocks, liaising with the Financial Controller to determine what procurement is needed, complete orders and ensure all accounting data sets are up to date and complete,
* Generation of high-quality reports in support of the specific objectives outlined above.
* Support science team to ensure accurate documentation of data gathered (experimental findings) in laboratory books (eLab), and storage of metadata, in accordance with the data management policies,
* Presentation of data and work duties at team meetings,
* Provide training in techniques to other researchers in areas where you as the laboratory and facility technician have expertise,
* Provide technical expertise and assistance for collaborative research projects according to need,
* Regular laboratory and facility cleaning and housekeeping.
* Travel between the C3 facility and the University of Manchester as required.
Qualifications
Essential Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
You will have:
* An honours degree in Biochemistry Chemistry, Biological Sciences, or a related field from a recognised institution.
* Several years’ experience working as a technician / administrator the field of molecular biology / biochemistry,
* Several years' experience working in company or organisational administration,
* A strong collaborative ethos for team-based working,
* Good attention to detail and ability to work to a high and accurate standard,
* Good communication (both written and oral) and interpersonal skills,
* Good time management and organisational skills,
* Ability to liaise confidently and effectively with a range of individuals,
* A flexible approach to dealing with research problems as they arise,
* An ability to meet deadlines, to work with multiple research groups and organise your workload accordingly,
* The ability to work independently (as a self-motivated individual) and as part of a team,
* The ability to contribute (providing technical information) to relevant research lab meetings,
* Have a clean driving licence and own car,

Desirable Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
* Experimental cell biology – cell culture techniques.
* Molecular Biology – DNA cloning and mutagenesis, protein expression in bacteria.
* Biochemistry – protein purification, SDS-PAGE, LC/GC MS, HPLC.
* Fermentation – reagent preparation, sampling and processing for analysis.
* Chemistry – General knowledge of safe handling and storage of chemicals
* Experience in XL gas bottle handling,
* Health and Safety Qualifications,
* PMP qualifications,
* Supervisory qualifications.
