Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant Location: Accrington Salary: £12.90 - £13.50 per hour Contract Type: Full-time Start Date: Monday 6 th January 2025 About the Role: We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) Teaching Assistant to join our team in Accrington. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in supporting primary-aged children with a range of SEMH needs, helping them to access the curriculum, develop social and emotional skills, and thrive in a positive, nurturing school environment. Key Responsibilities: - Provide 1:1 and small group support for children with SEMH needs, both in and outside of the classroom. - Assist teachers in delivering tailored learning programs that promote emotional well-being, resilience, and positive social interactions. - Create and maintain positive relationships with students, offering guidance, encouragement, and emotional support. - Work closely with the school's Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) and other staff to develop and implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Behaviour Support Plans (BSPs). - Help manage behaviour effectively, using de-escalation techniques and restorative practices. - Monitor student progress and report on their emotional, social, and academic development. - Provide feedback to parents, teachers, and SENCO on student progress and any concerns that may arise. - Assist in creating a safe and inclusive classroom environment where all children feel valued and supported. You will need: - Experience of working with children, ideally in a primary school setting, supporting children with SEMH or additional needs. - A calm, patient, and empathetic approach to working with children. - Excellent communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents. - A good understanding of child development and the impact of SEMH on learning and behaviour. - Strong organisational skills, with the ability to adapt to a range of individual student needs. - A proactive, flexible, and team-oriented attitude. - Ideally, you will have a relevant qualification in education, child development, or a related field (e.g. Teaching Assistant qualification, CACHE Level 3, or equivalent).
