Woodbank Community Food Hub in Stockport is looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Lead Grower to join the small team and help take on the four-acre organic site.
The Kindling Trust took on the old council nursery around five years ago and has been working to make it as productive as possible using sustainable and agroecological ways of farming. Currently, they sell to Unicorn Groceries and Veg Box People, and host many community-based events and volunteering opportunities, as well as providing a corner of the site to a team of community growers to welcome anyone who wants to lend a hand. They are acutely aware that so far the site has relied mostly upon grants and the dedicated team of volunteers and trainees, and are looking to make it more commercially viable and to increase the income they generate from the produce.
The Lead Grower will join the FarmStart coordinator and students and will be involved in crop planning, site design, all aspects of growing and producing food, and also help with the volunteers. Due to the nature of the job, experience in growing is essential. They are looking for a hard-working and motivated person to fill this role.
Salary: £22,230 (gross for 37.5hr week) pro rata for an average of 15 hours a week (averaged out across the year with fewer hours in winter and more during the growing season)
Deadline to apply: Midnight Sunday 5th December
Interviews will take place on: Monday 13th December
Start date: January 2022
