An exciting opportunity has arisen in our Cardiac team for a Consultant Cardiologist specialising in Inherited Cardiac Conditions. We are looking for an enthusiastic ambitious colleague to join our Team and take forward the service with the opportunity to develop other potential interests. The Cardiology department is staffed with energetic, forward-looking cardiologists and we are looking for someone similar to join our team. The organisation recognises the challenges facing the cardiology department and has invested in the expansion of the service. Delivery of a high-quality ICC service is a particular priority. You will work in a purpose built £28 million Heart Centre which includes four cardiac catheter labs equipped with GE Inova 2100 imaging systems, dedicated short stay and in-patient wards. The centre includes the cardiology outpatient and diagnostic departments, three cardiothoracic operating theatres and intensive care, high observation and cardiothoracic surgery beds. We receive invaluable support of our highly experiences set of cardiac physiologists across both Trusts. Main duties of the job We are looking for a dynamic individual to fill a vacancy to help deliver and develop our inherited cardiac conditions service. This will involve undertaking outpatient clinics, reviewing inpatients and participating in discussions at MDT team meetings. There is an annualised ward on-call rota in the form of consultant of the week. In addition, there will be out-of-hours on call commitment for general cardiology on a 1 in 12 basis (4 weeks of the year). We are looking for an innovative individual who can demonstrate a willingness / ability to link with ICC services in other parts of the region. An interest in developing and participating in research activity would be most welcome. Person Specification Professional Registration Essential • Full GMC registration with a licence to practice • GMC Specialist Registration (or expected inclusion within 6 months) Management and Administration Experience Essential • Experience of day to day organisation of cardiology services in a busy teaching hospital • Able to demonstrate leadership capability within multi-disciplinary teams Desirable • Familiar with current structure of Health service and conversant with recent initiatives and changes • Management course and/or qualification Qualifications and Training Essential • MRCP(UK) or equivalent qualification • Valid ALS certificate • Wide experience and specialist training in all aspects of inherited cardiac conditions Desirable • Other higher degree (e.g. MD or PhD) • Specialist training in cardiac imaging (e.g. cardiac MRI or echocardiography) • Specialist training in inherited arrhythmia syndromes, aortopathies and/or heart failure Teaching, Audit and Research Essential • Thorough understanding of the principles of medical audit and quality improvement • Must be able to demonstrate ability to lead change within a service • Experience of conducting clinical research • Experience of undergraduate and post-graduate teaching Desirable • Relevant research experience in one or more aspects of inherited cardiac conditions • Publication of relevant original research, review articles or case reports • Teaching skills course/qualification Clinical Experience Essential • Evidence of participation in CME/CPD in the last 12 months Personal Attributes Essential • Ability to work flexibly in a changing health service • Excellent manner with patients, being sensitive to their needs and fears • Evidence of ability to communicate, organise and lead
