The Children's Community Nursing Team provides appropriate child and family focused nursing support to children, young people, and their families, responding to individual needs and local community needs.
The service is provided to families with children aged 0-19 years and takes into account the need to prevent hospital admission, facilitate early discharge, and provide ongoing care for children and young people with acute, chronic, and complex needs.
Working across the whole of the child and young person's environment - home, school, community, and hospital, to facilitate participation, inclusion, and normality.
Main Duties of the Job
Our team works across South Cumbria, regularly networking with our north CCN colleagues.
We are co-located with the paediatric therapy teams.

The Trust will provide a twelve-month preceptorship period for New to registration Nurses, Midwives, and Allied Health Professionals.
Registered Nurses, Midwives, and Allied Health Professionals returning to practice, moving into new roles, or changing clinical environments may access an agreed preceptorship period.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Registered children's nurse (RSCN or RN (child))
* Proven experience of nursing children in an acute setting
* Post-registration qualification in teaching/assessing (ENB 998/NST 307) Mentorship
Knowledge
* Clear understanding of the impact of illness - especially chronic conditions - on the child/young person and their family
* Evidence of ability to participate in the clinical governance agenda and improve standards.
* Ability to use initiative, prioritise effectively.
* Demonstrate evidence to motivate team/peers
* Evidence of clinical/professional development.
* Knowledge of relevant current legislation - e.g. Data protection, Child Protection, Consent.
* Knowledge of a wide range of children's illnesses and their treatments and in-depth knowledge in a particular field.
* Understanding of the scope of professional practice.
* Understanding of reflective practice and its application.
* Self-awareness and appreciation of limitations.
* Work with children/young people with learning disabilities
* Knowledge of changing health agenda and impact for community nursing
* Demonstrable recent Nursing experience.
* Post-registration clinical skills (i.e. IV Cannulation and admin)
* Ability to build working relationships with children, young people, their families, and other professionals.
* Ability to motivate.
* Ability to use play as a form of communication/assessment tool
* Wide range of clinical skills (including nasogastric tubes, colostomy, enemas, Ace procedures)
* Teaching skills
* Basic IT skills.
* Able to drive - full current driving licence
