Key Work Compliance Co-Ordinator
Salary:£26,010
Mitie Care & Custody (C&C) is driven by a bold vision: to establish HMP Millsike as a place of restoration and rehabilitation, where prisoners can unlock their full potential and make meaningful, positive changes in their lives. We are excited by the opportunity Millsike presents: a blank canvas on which we can paint a bright future for our prisoners. Our mission is clear: to create an environment that empowers, inspires, and supports individuals to re-enter society with hope, purpose, and a life plan. To achieve this, we will set a culture of rehabilitation and restoration underpinned by integrity and high expectations. Prisoners will experience a dramatic shift from traditional prison environments. Millsike will be a vibrant, bustling community, teeming with industry, activity and opportunities for personal growth. Above all, we will ensure our approach offers a deep sense of safety/respect, through a supportive, uplifting environment, that helps prisoners to see their potential and that unlocks a brighter future for all.
Job objectives and responsibilities
This is an opportunity to join an integrated Offender Management Team at the heart of a New Prison.
The role will be based at HMP Millsike reporting directly to the Senior Manager of the Offender Management Unit. This is a non-operational role so open to applicants from a variety of different disciplines such as probation, prisons, psychology, administration and business assurance.
This role is based within the Offender Management Unit (OMU) at HMP Millsike. The OMU is one part of the ‘Reducing Reoffending' function. As a Key Work compliance officer, you will be contributing directly to the primary function of HMP Millsike - that of the rehabilitation of its prisoners. You will be responsible for ensuring compliance to the overarching framework in terms of the allocation and coordination of Key Work activity.
Key work is an integral role of a Prison Custody Officer. All Prison Custody Officers working on residential units are expected to engage with and support a small caseload of 6 people in prison and be a positive role model of trust and accountability. Every prisoner in a male closed prison is allocated a key worker. Your role is essential in the co-ordination of that activity, making sure that we meet our key performance indicators in relation to number of keywork sessions delivered and the appropriate allocation of keyworkers to prisoners.
The role will largely be administrative and based within the OMU Hub but there may be a need for regular contact with senior managers and officers regarding key work. You will be working alongside both probation and prison colleagues. This is primarily a role that relies upon understanding the requirements of policy in relation to keywork and utilising administrative and co-ordination skills to ensure we have an effective allocation and record keeping process that allows us to meet expectations in terms of the quantity of keywork delivered and by whom. As such, any mandatory training required will be given to successful applicants, so a willingness to complete training is necessary. Team members are supported and have access to learning opportunities for both personal and career development.
Person Specification
Candidates must have experience in developing systems to ensure the efficient allocation of cases. Good communication skills, both written and oral, are essential, along with general digital competence. Proficiency in Word, Excel, and Access at a practitioner level is required.
Candidates should possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build productive working relationships at all levels, both internally and externally. The ability to manage uncertainty and respond flexibly to a changing environment is crucial. Proven self-motivation and experience in escalating challenges to contribute to successful outcomes are also necessary.
Preferred Experience
Experience working in a custodial or secure setting is advantageous, as is familiarity with MOJ systems, such as the HMPPS Performance HUB. Additionally, technical knowledge of relevant prison legislation, policies, standards, inspection, and audit processes, along with an understanding of the wider criminal justice system, is desirable.
As a business, Mitie Care & Custody is committed to diversity and inclusion and we would welcome applications from a wide range of backgrounds including veterans, those looking for a career change, and people who have experience in social care or a learning environment. Full training will be given where applicable, and we would encourage anyone who might be thinking about a role in a secure establishment to get in touch.
