The UK Infrastructure Bank has become the National Wealth Fund (NWF)
The NWF will expand UKIB’s remit beyond infrastructure in support of the Government’s industrial strategy. With additional financial capacity and an enhanced risk budget, the NWF will be capitalised with £27.8bn to catalyse private investment in the market.
Job Purpose:
Their Portfolio Management (PM) team oversees the Bank’s growing portfolio of loans, guarantees and equity assets in five priority sectors (clean energy, transport, digital, water and waste). The PM team provides guidance and portfolio input into the Risk function and influences UKIB’s pipeline of new transactions with the aim of delivering a positive financial return. The critical role of Assistant Director will provide leadership to the PM team and act as an ambassador for the Bank’s missions of local and regional growth and the Net Zero transition.
Key Accountabilities for the role include:
1. Monitor progress on key projects, engage with project sponsors and equity fund managers, and implement necessary actions to protect the interests of the Bank.
2. Build internal models, interrogate external models, and carry out sensitivity analysis to manage risks effectively.
3. Analyse complex qualitative and quantitative information to recommend actions that align with the Bank’s mission.
4. Attend site visits to assess project progress and scrutinise management as needed.
5. Negotiate waivers and consents to protect the Bank’s interests.
6. Coordinate documentation, test covenant compliance, and ensure deals remain financially sound.
7. Contribute to reports for Investment and Credit Committees regarding project risks and pricing structure.
8. Actively contribute to the design and implementation of the Bank’s strategic Portfolio Management system.
Skills, knowledge & experience requirements for the role include:
* Established portfolio management skills in an infrastructure context.
* Demonstrable commercial expertise and accountability for high value projects.
* Experience in direct equity investment and equity funds is an advantage.
* Relevant sectorial experience across the infrastructure spectrum, including energy, power, transport, and social infrastructure.
* External counter-party management skills are critical.
* Debt experience in a banking or project finance environment is essential.
* Product experience relevant to the Bank’s offerings.
