Our client, a leader in the Defence & Security sector, is currently seeking a Principal Optical Engineer to join their team on a contract basis. This role will be based in Basildon and supports the research, design, and development of next-generation InfraRed (IR) Products. Key Responsibilities: Deliver support to the research, design, development, and manufacturing phases of the product lifecycle Contribute to system architecture definition, specification, and development of lens design Undertake analyses and performance simulations for optical solutions Support integration and testing of optical systems Deliver solutions that consider design for manufacture, assembly, and test Liaise with the customer community and engage regularly with the external supply chain Work within a multi-disciplinary Integrated Project Team (IPT) Job Requirements: Experience in optics and optical engineering within the Defence & Security sector Strong understanding of fibre optics and InfraRed (IR) technology Proficiency in system architecture definition and lens design Ability to conduct detailed analysis and performance simulations Experience with integration and testing of optical systems Understanding of design for manufacture, assembly, and test principles Excellent communication skills and ability to liaise with customers and external suppliers Security clearance (SC and UKEO) required Contract Details: 6-month contract Full-time, 37-hour standard workweek Onsite work required Overtime may be approved by the project team If you are an experienced Principal Optical Engineer with a strong background in optics and optical engineering within the Defence & Security sector, we would love to hear from you.
