The Arts and Humanities Research Council is recruiting for an 8 month fixed-term Investment Manager to support the Heritage and Galleries, Libraries, Archives and Museums (GLAM) portfolios.
Team overview
The Heritage, Culture and History (HCH) Team supports research covering a breadth of Arts and Humanities subjects, including history, law, archaeology, religious studies, philosophy, museum studies, literature, modern languages and linguistics. The Team leads on the delivery of AHRC’s Towards a National Collection programme; research funding for the Galleries, Libraries, Archives and Museums sector; the development of activity under the themes of Place and Story; as well as AHRC’s contribution to the European Joint Programming Initiative on Cultural Heritage. The team is responsible for scoping and shaping policy and strategy for future investment, as well as commissioning new research and associated activity within this remit.
Job Purpose
An AHRC Investment Manager plays a crucial role in the delivery of their team’s priorities, particularly in relation to the management and development of key programmes, investments and partnerships.
The Investment Manager will work closely with Senior Investment Managers to identify strengths, gaps, and trends in the portfolio, scope and develop new areas for investment, and prepare associated bids for funding. You will also engage with relevant research portfolios to understand current work, future plans, and opportunities for adding value to these and other investments and activities across UKRI and the wider landscape. This will include gathering and collating required reporting information from investments and working closely with colleagues in the Strategy, Impact and Engagement (SIE) team and Project Management Office (PMO) team to capture and articulate key outputs and successes.
We are seeking to appoint an Investment Manager to support the development, delivery, and management of programmes, projects and initiatives in the Heritage and Galleries, Libraries, Archives and Museums (GLAM) portfolios.
Main outputs and activities
1. Support and/or lead, as appropriate, the management of current investments and commissioning activities relating to a portfolio of areas within the team’s remit
2. Lead the collection, analysis, and communication of information in relation to funded projects and programmes within the team’s remit, including financial reporting
3. Contribute to the monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL) of funded projects, including development of research impact narratives and case studies
4. Support and/or lead, as appropriate, the production and revision of relevant programme documentation (e.g. reporting templates)
5. Support and/or lead, as appropriate, the development of new initiatives within the team’s remit, including scoping and commissioning activities
6. Support the development of bids for new funding in areas within the team’s remit
7. Develop and maintain relationships with key internal and external stakeholders as relevant to the role, including representing AHRC on relevant cross-UKRI groups where appropriate and deputising for Senior Investment Managers and/or the Team Head when required
8. Provide secretarial support, including minute taking to internal or external groups/committees.
9. Represent the AHRC externally, including giving presentations and facilitating workshops
10. Support strategic and corporate projects and project teams as required across AHRC and UKRI.
11. Manage and plan the workload of staff allocated to support team activity (this may include line or matrix management, dependant on staffing structures)
You will report to a Senior Investment Manager but would also be expected to work closely with colleagues at all levels across the organisation as well as across UKRI. While this current role is based within the HCH team and is focused on supporting areas within Heritage and Galleries, Libraries, Archives and Museums (GLAM) portfolios, the incumbent may be asked to support other teams, at certain times, depending on business need.
About you
The ideal candidate will have an enthusiasm for the arts and humanities and a demonstrable understanding of the research funding landscape. You will be a solution-oriented and proactive team player, with experience delivering and managing funding activities in the research and innovation sector, or in a commercial or policy setting (e.g. Government or Civil Service).
