Cleveland Fire Brigade are seeking to appoint Fire Control Operators to join our friendly team based at our state-of-the-art Control Room at Queens Meadow Business Park, Hartlepool.
1. 1X Permanent Full Time vacancy
2. 1X Temporary Full Time Vacancy for 12 Months
Our Fire Control team handles almost 16,000 emergency 999 calls per year, ensuring that crews, officers, fire appliances and equipment are dispatched efficiently to where they are needed.
Fire Control Operators need to be effective, confident communicators, remaining calm under pressure. These skills are particularly important when trying to get vital information from callers about the nature of incidents and their location, then communicating this information to firefighters.
As a Fire Control Operator, you are the first point of contact with members of the public who need our help. You will help to keep people safe as you stay on the phone, assessing the risks posed to the caller and giving fire survival advice until the crew arrives, in what can be very stressful, life-threatening situations. This is a vital role, communicating not only with the caller but also the crews attending and other emergency services and authorities who need to be there.
You will be provided with full training to enable you to carry out this role and there are great opportunities for career progression through our promotion processes.
ICT literacy is essential as is the ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels and from different backgrounds.
We are holding information sessions on 5th March 2025 at our Headquarters, Queens Meadow Business Park, Hartlepool where we will provide you with an insight into how our Fire Control function works and explain about the recruitment and selection process.
